Behringer, Jacob Gerald “Jake” (13 Jul 1931- 10 Jun 2022)

Jacob “Jake” Behringer age 90 of Oshkosh, WI passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022.

He was born in Greenwood, WI on July 13, 1931, to Clarence and Lorinda Behringer. Clarence died when Jake was 12 years old.

Jacob graduated from Owen High School in 1949. After high school, he briefly lived in Minneapolis, MN and worked in a fur store. Later in 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Jake served in active duty in Korea during the war as a radio operator in the 3rd Infantry until 1951 and was in reserves until honorably discharged in 1955.

His mother remarried Albert Schafer and the family moved to Winneconne. Jake joined his family in Winneconne where he met and wed Eunice Luebke in 1952. After his military service, Jake was employed at Miles Kimball and Castle Pierce in Oshkosh.

He started his own construction company, “Behringer Builders” and built and remodeled many homes in the Oshkosh area. Jake and Eunice farmed ten acres at 4730 Winneconne Road (now County Road S) in the town of Oshkosh. He also served as Sexton of Plummer Cemetery.

After retiring, Jake wrote a book, Watch the Sunset, about his experiences in Korea. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, country music, fishing, gardening, travel, and feeding squirrels and chipmunks.

Jake is survived by daughters, Cindy, Connie (Wally) Shaffer; sons, Randy (Deb), and Bill; grandchildren, Jessica, Tracy, Travis, Joe, Marshall, Jacob and Arika; and three great-grandchildren. Jake is also survived by in-laws Orville (Jean) Luebke, and Carol Luebke.

Jake was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather, and siblings George (Carrol Jean), Don, Louis and Robert. He was also preceded in death by son, Ken in 1997; wife, Eunice in 2007; and in-laws, Henry (Dorothy), Frank (Marcella), Harold and Walter Luebke and Clarence Schwahn.

A visitation will be held at Mueller Funeral Home, 904 E. Main Street, Winneconne on Monday, June 20, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. followed by a brief service and military honors. His cremated remains will be interred by immediate family at Plummer Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a local veteran’s group.
