Neillsville Supt. Gerald Makie Resigns (1982)
In a Tuesday evening meeting of the Neillsville School Board, administrator
Gerald Makie tendered his resignation.
Makie, who has been in Neillsville since 1971, told the board that he accepted a
position as administrator for the D.C. Everest School District, which serves the
Rothschild-Schofield area.
The departure of Makie, who takes on his new responsibilities September 1, was
met with sadness by Neillsville board members. The board voted unanimously to
allow Makie to break his 1982-83 contract.
Makie told the board that he had “Mixed feelings of happiness and sorrow” at the
idea of leaving Neillsville. Board member Bob Mitte said, “I hate to see you
go.” Board president Waler Wetzel said, “It’s sad to see you leave…it’s your
life.”
