Straus, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert (Golden – 20 August 1982)
Gilbert and Mildred Straus celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday
evening, August 20, at Neillsville Memorial Home.
The couple, Gilbert Straus and Mildred Schmidt, were married on August 20, in
Chicago. (Attending the open house was Mrs. Irvin Hammerberg, one of the
original attendants.)
Gilbert was born on October 2, 1907, in Chicago to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Straus. He
received his education in that city and then worked as a bookkeeper or Wieland
Dairy of Chicago.
Mildred was born on January 20, 1912, in Chicago to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schmidt.
She also was educated in Chicago schools. She later was employed by the
Greenwood Credit Union.
The couple lived in various places, finally settling in the Greenwood
area.\\Gilbert enjoys fishing and gardening. Mildred has been a resident of
Memorial Home for three years. He is a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran
Church while she is a member of the United Church of Christ.
The couple has a son, Gilbert, Sussex; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Vivian)
Straughan, Waukesha; and three grandchildren.
