Wedding vows were exchanged between Janet L. Miller and Douglas G. Kops at the
7:30 nuptial Mass held in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, on Friday evening,
December 3, 1976. The Rev. Frank Rushman officiated at the double ring ceremony.
Organ music was provided by Penny Hinke. Paula Kops, sister of the groom, sang
“The Wedding Song.”
Parents of the newlyweds are Mr. and Mrs. Leo D. Miller, Colby, and Mr. and Mrs.
Gerald Kops, Unity.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, approached the altar in a gown of
imported white silk organza fashioned with a lace edged cathedral train. The
bishop sleeves, sheer pearl encrusted bodice and hemline were of Belgium lace
and hand embroidered flowers trimmed with dainty ruffles of Alencon lace on the
wrists and neckline. Also she wore a matching fingertip lace Camelot headpiece.
She carried a cascade arrangement of pink roses, white carnations, baby’s breath
and English ivy streamers.
Her maid of honor, Terra Calley, and bridesmaid, Rona Will, wore matching gowns
of emerald green double knit trimmed with ruffled beige lace at the neckline and
wrist. Each carried a single long stemmed pink rose with satin wrapped stems and
beige ribbon streamers.
Serving the groom as best man was Don Jablonicky, Unity, and the groomsman were
Greg Gaulke, Colby. Performing as ushers were Brad Kops and John Miller,
brothers of the bride and bridegroom.
A reception and dance were held at the VFW Clubhouse following the ceremony.
Pre-nuptial events included a miscellaneous shower November 14 at the Dave
Calley home, and a rehearsal dinner held at the Olde Cedar House in Abbotsford.
The new Mrs. Kops graduated from Colby High School in May of 1976, and her
husband graduated from the same school in 1975.
He is employed at Marathon Cheese Corporation at Marathon. Their new residence
is in Marathon.
