A school bus driver and mother of four has had an exceptional year at winning
prizes in 1976, and in fact almost won two prized in one day during December.
On December 24, 1976, Mrs. Bruce (Vera) Jensen of Route 1, Dorchester,
registered at Pauline’s Beauty Salon and was later notified she had won a
merchant certificate sponsored by the Stetsonville, Commercial Club.
The day before she had registered her name at Jerry’s TV in Colby while her
daughter was buying a record, and subsequently was awarded a TV ping pong fun
game.
Although she’s not a hunter, at least not yet, Mrs. Jensen was still pleased to
have held the winning ticket for a 20-30 Savage deer rifle awarded at a dance
sponsored by the Dorchester Sportsman Club iin November. Her husband, an
employee at the Packaging Corp. of America in Colby, had purchased the ticket
for her, along with one for himself.
Last Valentine’s Day, the Jensens attend an annual meeting of the Colby Boxboard
Credit Union and Mrs. Jensen won a set of rosewood handle steak knives. At
previous meeting she won bath towels, sheets and a thermometer.
Asked if she had ever won anything else, Mrs. Jensen replied, “Not since Jim’s
Shurfine had his grand opening in 1968, when I won a bicycle.
Mrs. Jensen has driven school bus for nine years, and is employed by the Gorke
Buss Service at Dorchester. She and her husband raise young stock on their 40
acre farm, and this past year their daughter, Marie, who is active in 4-H, won a
blue ribbon and a first place showmanship with a black angus named Andy, at the
Taylor County Fair. The year and a half old animal was also chosen the Grand
Champion Steer.
The couple also has three sons, Dale, Mark and Dane, all students at Colby High
School. Marie is a student at the UW-Eau Claire, studying speech communications.
