Abby Schoessow from Granton was recently selected by Wisconsin and National 4-H
to serve as a representative for an international 4-H Youth Exchange to the
country of Japan. During her four-week-long stay, she will learn about the
culture, economics, politics and the 4-H program of Japan by living with her
host family and participating in daily life. In turn, she will teach her host
family and other acquaintances about 4-H in the U.S., and our people,
traditions, culture and government.
Abby is the daughter of Rev. Daniel and Courtney Schoessow of Granton. She has
been in the Romadka 4-H Club for 11 years and currently serves as the vice
president of the club. Her 4-H interests include leadership; cultural arts;
photography; showing her pony, “Bubba,” in the 4-H Horse and Pony Project; and
representing Clark County at the state horse show.
Abby is also active in her school and community. She is a junior at Granton High
School and is involved in FFA, Spanish Club, National Honor Society and
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and participates in cross country and track.
She is also a leader on the Granton Equestrian Team and helped her team win the
state Wisconsin Interscholastic Horsemanship Association competition. She is
active in her church and youth group, and is proud that she and her twin brother
helped bring in over 50 units of blood last March for their “Sweet 16 Blood
Drive.”
The approximate cost for Abby’s travel to Japan is $6,000. To help offset costs,
there will be a baked potato bar and pie fundraiser on March 12 in the Granton
Zion Lutheran Church basement from 12 to 2 p.m.
