Staniec, Sharon Ann (15 June 1951 – 13 February 2023)

Sharon A. Staniec, 71, of Thorp, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp.

Sharon Ann Staniec was born on June 15, 1951, at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley, the daughter of Leon and Clara M. (Markowski) Staniec, Sr. She was raised on the family farm in rural Lublin, where she attended elementary school, and graduated from Gilman High School in 1969. Sharon then moved to Chicago, IL to live with her grandparents. She worked at Signode in Chicago, now ITW, as an accountant until retiring in 2006 after 38 years of employment. After retiring, she moved to Thorp where she purchased a home, and resided there until her health declined.

She enjoyed traveling to such places as the Bahamas and Florida, loved watching the Packers, March Madness, and collecting angels. Sharon had an uncanny knack of remembering numbers, especially license plate numbers. She had many friends from Illinois, Florida, and Georgia. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, and her friend’s children, even though she didn't have any of her own.

Sharon is survived by her siblings: Shirley (Terry) Wright of Chippewa Falls, Sandy Brecht (Rich Rogus) of Thorp, Michael Staniec (Lisa Mason) of Thorp; two nieces: Lacey and Danielle; and three nephews: Dylan, Travis, and Terry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother: Leon G. Staniec, Jr., her sister: Julie Staniec, and her brother-in-law, David Brecht.

Funeral services will be held at 7pm on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Thorp Funeral Home, with Rev. Marion Talaga officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Cemetery in Lublin, WI. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, on Monday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
