Amport, Ernest Hans (25 March 1920 - November 1982) With Flag

Ernest Hans Amport, 62, a Humbird native and brother-in-law of a Neillsville woman, passed away recently in Corvallis, Oregon.

Amport was born on March 25, 1920, in Humbird to Hans and Alice (Engle) Amport. On August 3, 1943, he married Dorothy Hardwick in Milwaukee ceremonies.

He was a retired U.S. Air Force pilot, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the military in 1964 and moved with his family to Eugene, Oregon, and in 1968 to Corvallis. He earned a Master’s degree in industrial education from Oregon State University and taught in Corvallis schools.

Amport was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the Retired Officer’s Association and Epsilon Pi Tau Fraternity.

Surviving him, besides his wife, is a son, Gerry, Charleston, S.C.; a brother Werner, Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Dolores Johnson, Neillsville, and three grandchildren.

Memorial services were held from Calvin United Presbyterian Church of Corvallis with the Revs. Peter Hutton and David McCracken officiating.
