Six-year-old Dean Young, a first grader at St. Mary’s in Colby, has won a new
sting-ray bicycle in the Kellogg Company’s “Stick Up for Breakfast” contest.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Young, 705 Seventh Street, Colby, were notified last month of
Dean’s good fortune. A letter from R.C. Fox, Vice-President of Kellogg’s, told
the Youngs, “Your entry in the ‘Stick Up for Breakfast’ contest shows your
interest in a good breakfast, as well as your talent and creativity, and we are
pleased that your drawing was judged to be a winner.”
Then November 1 a new Sears bike was delivered to the Youngs. Dean had chosen
the sting-ray from among other bikes, including a ten speed. Dean, who admitted
he never thought he’d win, said, “It’s neat.”
His mother said, “I’ve notices he is good in art. In his pre-school screening
they said he had well developed eye to hand coordination. “Dean’s artistic touch
probably comes from his mother, who paints in her spare time, and painted the
carriage scene that adorns their garage.
