The Loyal High School Class of 1959 held its 65th class reunion on Saturday,
July 20, at the Vin-Yard Bar and Grill in Loyal. Eighteen class members and 11
guests attended. Members of the class who attended the reunion were (front from

The Loyal High School Class of 1957 held a reunion Aug. 3 at Rumors On Main in
Loyal. Class members enjoyed lunch and visited. Sixty-six students graduated May

Mr. and Mrs. James Zenner had their infant son Adam James baptized Sunday at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis Rushman officiating. Baptism
sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Mike Zenner, Marshfield. A dinner and reception were
held at the Zenner home after the services.

Funeral services for Elizabeth Kuehling, 23, formerly of Unity, who died at
Milwaukee General Hospital, Friday, October 28, 1977, were held Monday, October
31 at the Rux Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby. The Rev. Elton Moore conducted the
service and burial was in the Town of Brighton Cemetery.
Miss Kuehling was a 1972 graduate of Colby High School and had worked in
restaurants in Eau Claire and Milwaukee. She was affiliated with the Trinity
Lutheran Church in Unity.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kuehling, Unity; four
sisters, Mrs. James (Mary) Harwood, Riplinger, Mrs. Donald (Rose) Viegutz,
Minneapolis, Irene Kuehling, Milwaukee, and Carol at home, and one brother,
Dennis, Unity.

Funeral services for Lloyd Treankler, 70, Stratford, were held Saturday,
November 5, 1077 at the Rux-Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby. Chaplain Donald E.
White conducted the service, and burial was in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Treankler farmed in the Town of Eau Pleine all of his life. He was married
to the former Helen Van Dreel of Colby on November 6, 1930.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary Ellen)
White, Lunenburg, Massachusetts, Mrs. Merlin (Donna Mae) Kilty, Edgar, Mrs. John
(Barbara) Bandow, Columbus, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Ted (Kathleen) Weis, Marathon;
two sons, Darrell and Richard Treankler, both of Marshfield; 19 grandchildren
and one great-grandchild.
Surviving brothers and sisters are Lyle, California, Laverne of Stratford,
Floyd, Abbotsford, Norman Busche, Stratford, Myron Busche, Wausau, Edna Busche,
Stratford and Hazel Treankler, New York City.

Hanson, Agnes E. (16 Mar 1889 – 2 Nov 1977)
Services for Agnes E. Hanson, 88, a former Abbotsford and Athens resident, were
held Saturday, November 5, 1977 at the First Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford.
Burial was in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery.
The Rev. Robert Everhard officiated and the Kraut Maurina Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hanson was born March 16, 1889 at Kelly, Wisconsin. She was a 1906 graduate
of Athens High School, and later taught school in rural Athens for sex years
before her marriage to William Hanson on July 24, 1912 at Athens.
The couple lived in Athens for 25 years before moving to Edgar, and then farmed
in the Town of Holton until 1953. They also resided in Greenwood for nine years.
He husband died October 11, 1964.
Mrs. Hanson was a church chairman and past president of the ladies aid of the
First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one son, Robert Hanson, Eagle River; three daughters, Mrs.
Oscar Blumenkamp, Eagle River, Mrs. Arno Roepke, Birnamwood, Mrs. Carl Lindner,
Greenwood; one half-brother, Dr. Alvin Grunewald, Mayville, Wisconsin; one
step-sister, Mrs. Margaret Fladvid, Athens; 14 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sons, one
granddaughter, two sisters and a brother.
Pallbearers were Charles, Greg and Mark Lindner, David Hanson and Robert
Bergner.

Funeral services for John J. Gries, 81, Colby, who died Friday at St. Joseph’s
Hospital, Marshfield, were held Monday, November 14, 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Colby. The Rev. Francis Rushman officiated and burial was in St.
Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Gries was born May 9, 1896 at School Hill, Wisconsin, and married Delphine
Weix on June 21, 1926 at Colby. For many years he managed the O&N Lumber
Company, and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
The World War I veteran and member of the VFW organization was affiliated with
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, The Foresters, and Senior Citizens Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lester (Marcia_ Miller, Abbotsford; two
grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Three sisters and seven brothers preceded him in death.
The Rux-Lulloff Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wittek, Joanne Marie (18 February 1949 – 3 August 2024)
In Loving Memory of Joanne Marie Wittek
Joanne Marie (Staniec) Wittek, 75, of Thorp, passed away on August 3rd, 2024, in
Thorp surround by family after her four-year battle with Melanoma.
Born on February 18th, 1949, Joanne was the daughter of Frank and Sophia
(Soprych) Staniec. She grew up on her family farm near Owen-Withee, attending
grade school at Clark School. After graduating from Owen-Withee High School in
1967, she pursued higher education, earning her Bachelor of Science in Education
from the University of Wisconsin River Falls in 1970.
In 1969, Joanne married her long-time high school sweetheart, David Wittek, at
St. Olaf Catholic Church in Eau Claire. Together, they moved to Thorp, where
they raised their three children: Janay, Jeff, and Jason.
Joanne’s musical talents brought joy to the community. She served as the choir
director for both Thorp Catholic Parochial School and Thorp High School.
Additionally, she led the choir at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and
organized various youth music activities. Joanne was an active member of the
Clark County Choraliers and a leader in the Northern Lights 4-H club. She also
supported local youth and her own children in FFA and livestock showing.
Passionate about education, Joanne earned her Master’s degree in Education from
the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. She dedicated her career to teaching,
serving as the Reading Specialist at Owen-Withee School District until her
retirement in 2006.
During retirement, Joanne enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with
her grandchildren. She and her husband, David, spent winters in Tucson, AZ,
where Joanne immersed herself in photography, participated in various choirs and
bell tone groups, and found joy in creating stained glass art and painting.
Joanne is survived by her husband, David, and their children: Janay (Rodney
Stengl) Wittek, Jeff (Beth) Wittek, and Jason (Veronica) Wittek. Her five
grandchildren—Brandon, Sam, Cooper, Parker, and Adriana—were a source of immense
pride and love. Joanne is also survived by her mother, Sophia Staniec, and her
sister, Diane (Roger) Peters. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank
Staniec.
A Celebration of Life will take place with family and friends at a later date.
