Bunnell, Ashley M. (14 May 1985 – 24 May1986)

Ashley M. Bunnell, 1 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bunnell, Rt. 3 Greenwood, died Friday, May 14, in a mobile home fire.

Ashley was born May 14, 1985, daughter of Donald and Susan (Jarchow) Bunnell.

Surviving, besides her parents, is a brother, Corey, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Zimmerman, Greenwood; and Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Jarchow, of Merrill; great grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Heiman, of Marshall, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Yerges, of Fall River.

Graveside rites were at Loyal Cemetery with Rev. C. Arlene Denzer officiating. Rinka Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dux, Elfrieda M. (28 October 1900 – 20 June 1986)

Neillsville Memorial Home resident Elfrieda M. Dux, 85, died early Friday, June 20. Mrs. Dux, formerly of Rt. 3 Neillsville, passed away after a brief illness.

The former Elfrieda Schoenherr was born October 28, 1900, in the Town of Weston, to Erich and Emma (Schlinkert) Schoenherr. Educated at Fairview School, she did housework until her marriage to Herman E. Dux on September 14, 1921. The couple farmed in the Town of Weston and Pine Valley until their retirement in 1962. Mr. Dux predeceased her on January 17, 1978. Due to failing health, she moved to Memorial Home in October 1983. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid.

Survivors include two children, Louis Dux and Mrs. Gordon (Gladys) Thoma, both of Neillsville; a sister Mrs. Emmette (Mathilda) McDonough, Rolling Meadows, Illinois; two brothers, Kurt Schoenherr, Columbus; and Herbert Schoenherr, Neillsville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents’; three sisters, Grace, Lilly and Helen; and two brothers, Ferdinand and Karl.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Paul N. Reede, were held Monday, June 23, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe. Accompanist Karen Hoppa and congregational singers provided music. Interment was in the church cemetery. Gesche Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Pallbearers were Herbert Henchen, George Thoma, David Hoppa, Franklin Mitte, Louis and Herman Hagedorn.

Hanna, Alma (31 May 1905 - 26 May 1986)

Eighty-year old Mrs. Alma (Wagne) Hanna, 526 Woodfire Way, Casselberry, Florida, died Monday, May 26, 1986, at the home of her daughter in Winter Park, Florida.

She was born in Neillsville area on May 31, 1905, the daughter of Charles and Lena (Jahr) Steuerwald. After her marriage to Helmuth Wagner, the couple resided in Neillsville until Mr. Wagner’s death in 1949. She then moved to Indiana and later, Florida where she lived until her death. She had been employed as a teacher.

Surviving are two daughters, Lois Kehres, Winter Park, Florida and Marsha Slaughter, Portland, Maine; a sister, Eileen Seif, Milwaukee; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Gesche Funeral Home is in charge of arranging graveside services to be held Saturday, June 7, 4 p.m., at Neillsville City Cemetery.

Hansen, Christine W. (6 May 1890 – 12 June 1986)

Services were held Monday, June 16, at United Church of Christ for ninety-six year old Christine W. Hansen. She passed away Thursday, June 12 at Neillsville Memorial Home after a lingering illness. Rev. Mark Voll officiated, and music was provided by Eileen Zank with Mark and Sue Voll. Burial was made in Neillsville City Cemetery. Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Wayne Jackson, Maynard Prock, Robert Mortenson, Jr., John Mazola, Jr. Steven Walker, Richard Seelow, Larry, James and LeRoy Hansen.

The former Christine Johnson was born May 6, 1890, at Denmark, Wisconsin, a daughter of Johan and Wilhemina (Rasmusen) Johnson. Following her education at the Lang’s Corner School, she worked in Chicago until her marriage to Harry C. Hansen on October 15, 1908, in Denmark.

For five years the couple lived in North Dakota, but returned to Price County, Wisconsin, where they remained for 12 years. In 1927, they moved to Clark County, farming there until retirement in 1952. Mr. and Mrs. Hansen also lived in the Humbird area for several years. Her husband predeceased her on January 27, 1960, and she entered Neillsville Memorial Home about ten years ago due to failing health.

Surviving are eight children, Mrs. Pearl Prock, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Mortenson and Leland Hansen, all of Neillsville; Mrs. Raymond (Lila) Dobbs, of Gardiner, Montana; Everett ‘Bud’ Hansen, Granton; Melnard Hansen, Greenwood; Mrs. Belle Mazola and Mrs. Durward (Evelyn) Walker, both of Fairchild; three half-sisters, Mrs. Val Beneke, Denmark; Mrs. Hannah Schoen and Mrs. Frank (Edna) Van Dreel, both of Green Bay; two half-brothers, Johannes Johnson, Denmark; and Louis Johnson, of Green Bay; fifty-seven grandchildren, one hundred and twenty-three great-great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Orbert; four daughters, Bernice, Genevieve, Sylvia and Eleanor; three grandsons; two brothers; a half-brother; and a half-sister.

Hansen, Melnard B. (10 February 1911 – 23 June 1986)

Rural Greenwood resident Melnard B. Hansen, 77, died Monday afternoon, June 23, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness.

He was born February 10, 1911, in Bismarck, North Dakota, the son of Harry and Christine (Johnson) Hansen. While a young boy, his family moved to Wisconsin, and he attended school in Price County.

On May 24, 1934, he married Ellen D. Howard, in Neillsville. The couple farmed for several years in the Christie area, then moved to Milwaukee, where he was employed for 18 years by Square D Electrical Company. Returning to the Town of Eaton, they farmed until failing health caused his retirement. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Greenwood.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen, and two children, Larry, of Pittsville, and Mrs. Dennis (Ginger) Brown, Sun Prairie; five sisters, Mrs. Pearl Prock and Mrs. Robert (Carol) Mortenson, both of Neillsville, Mrs. Belle Mazola and Mrs. Durand Walker, both of Fairchild, and Mrs. Raymond (Lila) Dobbs, Gardiner, Montana; two brothers, Leland, Neillsville, and Everett “Bud” of Granton; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Orbert; and four sisters, Bernice, Genevieve, Sylvia and Eleanor.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-9 p.m., and Friday until 11:30 a.m. at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, then one hour before services at the church. Rev, Norbert Miller will conduct funeral services on Friday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m. at United Methodist, Neillsville. Music will be provided by Mark and Sue Voll accompanied by Deon Spangler. Burial will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Floyd Murphy, Wayne Jackson, Ronald Tomlinson, Gary Hansen, John Mazola, Jr., Jerry Marden, Richard and Eugene Seelow.

Miller, Clarence F. (5 December 1916 – 3 June 1986) With Flag

Neillsville resident Clarence F. Miller, 69, of 415 E. 6th St., passed away early Tuesday, June 3, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. He had been ill for a brief time.

Mr. Miller was born in Neillsville on December 5, 1916, a son of Frank and Louise (Kessler) Miller. After attending Hiawatha School, in the Town of Pine Valley, he farmed in the Neillsville area.

Entering the U.S. Army on August 14, 1942, he served in the European Theatre during World War II and was recipient of many awards and medals. Following his discharge on November 24, 1945, he returned to the Neillsville area and farmed until 1955 in the Town of Grant. He married Anita A. Wedekind, at Neillsville, on June 19, 1948. She survives him. For 27 years he was employed by the Clark County Highway Department, until his retirement, in 1982.

Surviving him besides his wife, are eight children, Glen of Schofield; Wendell of Charlotte, N.C; Gary, Jeffrey, Daniel, Janice, Steven, and Mrs. Wendell (Linette) Kuhn, all of Neillsville; a sister and four brothers, Mrs. Frank (Jeanette) Zank, Neillsville, William of Poplar Bluff, Mo., James, Garrison, MN, Francis “Mick”, of Lindsay, and Donald of Evansville; and fourteen grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Angeline; and a grandson, Randall.

Visitation will be at Gesche Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, June 4, from 6-9 p.m., and Thursday morning until 11:30, then at United Church of Christ one hour before services. Rev. Mark Voll will conduct funeral services on Thursday, June 5, 1:30 p.m. at United Church of Christ. Music will be provided by Eileen Zank with Mark and Sue Voll. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post 73 will conduct graveside military rites. The Pallbearers are James Zschernitz, Arthur Krause, Bryan Glass, Joe Urlaub, Mark and Matt Hemp.

Montag, Anna (17 March 1889 – 12 June 1986)

Ninety-seven year old Mrs. Herman (Anna) Montag, of Chili, died Thursday, June 12, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

The former Anna Fenske was born March 17, 1889, in the Town of Fremont. A life-long resident there, she received her education and then married Herman Montag on January 11, 1911. He predeceased her on November 23, 1954. Mrs. Montag was a membe4r of Christ Lutheran Ladies Aid and Chili Community Club.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. Elmer (Geneva) Steffen, Harold and Victory, all of Chili; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and two step-great-great grandchildren. Besides her husband she was predeceased by two brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

Rev. Herbert Biermann officiated at funeral services held Monday, June 16, at Christ Lutheran Church, Chili. Mrs. Norman Faber was organist. Burial was in Yolo Cemetery. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Elgene Montag, Adam Steffen, Douglas Hildebrandt, Jame Lingnofsky, Dean Calhoun and Charles Paulson. Zachary Steffen was honorary pallbearer.

Peasley, Dr. Frank (26 August 1899 – 18 May 1986)

Dr. Frank Peaslee, Fairfield, Iowa, 86 year-old brother of Myrtie Davis, Granton, and Hazel Lezotte, Neillsville, died May 18, 1986, at Jefferson County Hospital, after a lingering illness.

He was born August 26, 1899, in Vernon County, the son of Thomas and Lepha Peaslee. He was educated in chiropractic’s and practiced for 43 years at Pekin, Illinois, retiring in 1975. He married Dr. Dorothy Darst in Dallas, Texas on May 4, 1932.

Surviving besides his wife is a son, Dr. Roland Peaslee of Fairfield, Iowa; four grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters.

Perko, Charles (29 November 1907 – 21 May 1986)

Charles Perko, 78, of Lac du Flambeau, and former Willard resident, died May 21, at the Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff.

Charles Perko was born on November 29, 1907, at Pueblo, Colorado, a son of Joseph and Mary (Hockevar) Perko. At the age of 4 years he moved with his parents to a farm at Willard. He received his education in area schools and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1926. Later he moved to Cleveland and worked at a meat market, which he later purchased.

On June 30, 1930, he married Madeline Suda at St. John’s Cathedral, Cleveland. They purchased the Quast Store in Willard. In 1941, he started a John Deere Implement Company dealership in Marshfield. Following retirement in 1956, the couple moved to Big Crauling Stone Lake, near Lac du Flambeau.

Surviving besides his wife is a daughter, Mrs. James (Jeanette) Schreiner, of Marshfield; two sons, Charles, Jr., of Lockport, Illinois; and Edward, of Lac du Flambeau; four brothers, Ed, Fred and Louie of Willard; and Albert of Madison; and a sister, Mrs. Olga Zimmerman of Cleveland.

Services were held Saturday, May 24, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard, with Rev. James Lesczynski officiating. Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers were Pat Schreiner, Tom Schreiner, Howard Perko, Stanley Suda, Ed Perko, Lawrence Suda and Ed Rueth. Rinka Funeral Home, of Greenwood, was in charge of arrangements.

Perushek, Charles E. (23 October 1919 – 22 June 1986) With Flag

Sixty-six year old Charles E. Perushek, 203 W. Division St., was found dead at his home on Sunday, June 22.

Mr. Perushek was born October 23, 1919, in the Town of Hendren, a son of Ludwig and Paula (Stupica) Perushek. He attended Black Berry School and high school at Willard and Greenwood. After his schooling he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and then the United States Navy, on October4 16, 1940. As a chief machinist mate, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was discharged May 20, 1947, and returned to Neillsville, where he resided until his sudden death. After 34 years of employment with Northern Auto Supply Co., he retired in 1983.

Surviving him are three sisters, Mary Schumate and Anna Perushek, both of Chicago, and Mrs. Albert (Pauline) Volk, Madison; and three brothers, Ludwig, of Duluth, MN, Frank and Tony of Neillsville. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville. Rev. James Lesczynski of Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, will officiate. Music will be provided by Ronald Resong and St. Mary’s Choir. Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Willard. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post 73. Friends and relatives will serve as pallbearers. Gesche Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
