Hemmy, Howard (? - 2 May 983)
Howard Hemmy, 78, of Melrose and formerly of Humbird, died Monday, May 2, in La
Crosse Lutheran Hospital.
Hemmy was born near Humbird in Jackson County to Peter and Emma (Zerbel) Hemmy.
He married Fanny Webb August 3, 1927, in rural Melrose. The couple farmed near
Melrose until 1962, when they moved into Melrose.
He was assessor for the village of Melrose for many years an also was a radio
operator for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Earl (Bette) Lyons of Crofton,
Maryland, and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one sister.
Services were held Thursday afternoon in the Melrose United Methodist Church
with the Rev. John Webster officiating. Burial was in the Melrose Cemetery. The
Smith Mortuary of Melrose was in charge of the arrangements.
