Another new business was added to the Dorchester community recently with the opening of Rose’s Magic Mirror Beauty Boutique. The new business, owned and managed by Rose Grajek, is located in her home just ½ mile north of the intersection of Highways 13 and A.

She opened the boutique November 22, 1977 after her husband, Clemence, remodeled their home to make room for a shop. Clemence remodeled the family’s two and one-half car garage to carve out the boutique in the four year old home.

Rose, who trained in Chicago, has been in the beauty salon business for nearly seven years. This is her first try at managing her own business. Previously she worked at what is now the Mirage in Medford for four years. She keeps in practice by experimenting on her daughter, Linda. She is planning on a grand opening sometime in mid-January, but she has yet to set the date.

She admitted to the difficulty of building up a new clientele but added, “I’m getting more and more right along.” Her salon boasts facilities capable of keeping a pair of beauticians busy, but for now she plans to work alone. The facilities include two deluxe dryers and two styling chairs.

She has set hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but will also be open Thursday
Evening and Saturdays from 7 until noon. Additionally, she will be available for appointments upon request.

Gasik, Joyce Virginia (19 June 1933 – 20 August 2024)

JOYCE V. GASIK, age 91, formerly of Loyal, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Seton Medical Center, near Killeen, TX, where she had been living with family for the past three years.  A private graveside service will take place at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Loyal, at a later date.

Joyce Virginia Schwartz was born on June 19, 1933, in Blue Island, IL, to Norwood and Lois (Richardson) Schwartz. She attended local schools and graduated from Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in 1951.  After high school, Joyce met the love of her life, Edward John Gasik, and they were married on September 13, 1952, in Harvey, IL.  After adopting their two daughters, Lois and Christine, the couple moved out of the Chicago area and relocated to Dorchester, eventually settling in the Loyal area.

Joyce worked as an Administrative Assistant in professional offices during her early career and then made the switch to a Certified Medical Record Technician. She worked at Clark County Healthcare Center and Norwood Health Center and was a consultant for several nursing homes in central Wisconsin. She later worked for nearly 20 years in Utilization Review at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. After retiring, she continued to do volunteer work at the St. Vincent DePaul free clinic.

She will be dearly missed by her two daughters: Lois (Brian) Schwieso of Killeen, TX, and Christine Gregorich (Paul Susa) of Greenwood. She is also survived by one sister, Norma Platner, of Portage, MI; three granddaughters: Elizabeth (Ryan) Buege, Breanna Schwieso, Taylor Gregorich (Ethan Schultze); and one grandson, Tyler Gregorich.  She was also blessed to spend time with her great grandson, Austin Buege.  She loved her children and grandchildren very much--they were her world.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; her brother, Gail Schwartz; and her sister, Marjorie Watson.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery Fund for beautification and upkeep of the parish cemetery.
