Mrs. William Neuhaus and Elaine Wachholz were weekend guest of their mother,
Julia Wachholz, for Mother’s Day. On Sunday, they all attended the baptism at
the United Church of Christ for Jennifer Lynn Simek, baby daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Jim Simek and great granddaughter of Julia Wachholz. The Simeks entertained
a large group of relatives for dinner after the services.

Fink, Christopher Robin Enoch (Birth – 11 December 1977)
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robin E. Fink, Burnsville, Minn., Dec. 11,
weighing eight pounds, 12 ounces. They have named him Christopher Robin Enoch
Fink.
Paternal grandparents are the Rev. and Mrs. Robin Fink, Colby. Mr. and Mrs.
Irvin Froh, Henderson, Minn., are the maternal grandparents. Great grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Fink, Knowlton.

Firnstahl, Paul (Citizen of the Year - 1977)
The Colby Chamber of Commerce honored Paul Firnstahl as their citizen of the
Year at their Christmas party Saturday night. Firnstahl was chosen by a
committee of the chamber which included Russ Meyer, Jackie Stange, Bernard
Wavrunek and Junior Tesmer.
Tesmer in presenting the award said, “It would be easy to give the award to a
successful businessman or woman, but their success is for their own gain, and we
felt this award should go to a person who gives of his time, and even money, to
help this community without any personal gain.”
Tesmer said Firnstahl was singled out for the award because of his actions last
year as chamber president. Tesmer complimented Firnstahl for the job he did in
cleaning up Colby Cheese Days and for getting the ball rolling on the industrial
park. He said, “While we all thought it was a good idea, it always takes action
instead of just talk.”
Firnstahl and his wife Lorraine have lived in the Colby are most of their lives.
They have two daughters, Daine who is married and Cindy, a sophomore at Colby
High School.
Firnstahl is a Production Control Supervisor of Packaging Corporation, Colby. He
has worked for the firm for 18 years. He is active in 4-H work both on the local
and county levels.
Firnstahl thanked the community, his family and Packaging for the help and
support they have given him.

Marcott, Michelle (DAR Good Citizen Award - 1977)
Michelle Marcott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Marcott, 307 W. Hickory
Street, has been selected as the Daughters of’ of the American Revolution Good
Citizen Award at Abbotsford High School. Michelle was chosen for her
contributions to the school and community and her excellent citizenship. The
community can be very proud of young people such as Michelle Marcott, according
to a spokesman for the high school.
She is president of the senior class and secretary of the student senate.
Additionally, she is active as president of FB:LA and secretary of the National
Honor Society. To keep busy she also participates in band, the school newspaper,
and plays on the volleyball and track teams.

Myer, Chad Alvin (Baptism - 1977)
Chad Alvin, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meyer, was baptized Sunday at St.
Louis Catholic Church by the Rev. James Schafer. Dale Meyer and Tim Meyer,
uncles of the child were sponsors. The baby was born Nov. 22, at St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Marshfield and weighed 8 pounds and 3 ounces and measured 21 inches
long. He joins two sisters and two brothers: Sara 10, Steve 9, Scott 5, and
Michelle 4. His grandparents are Mrs. Violet Meyer, Dorchester and Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Wollert, Colby.

Pinter Marine PFC Gregory L. (Military Notes - 1977)
Marine PFC Gregory L. Pinter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Pinter of Rt. 1
Abbotsford, has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot,
Parris Island, S.C.
During the 11-week training cycle, he learned the basics of battlefield
survival. He was introduced to the typical daily routine that he would
experience during his enlistment and studied the personal and professional
standards traditionally exhibited by marines.
He participated in an active physical conditioning program and gained
proficiency is a variety of military skills, including first aid, rifle
marksmanship and close order drill. Teamwork and self-discipline were emphasized
throughout the training cycle.
A 1976 graduate of Abbotsford Senior High School, he joined the Marine Corps in
June 1977.

Primeau, Navy Captain Don G. (Service Notes- 1977)
Navy Captain Don G. Primeau, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin F. Primeau of 1407 N.
Fifth St. Abbotsford, recently assumed command of the combat store ship USS San
Diego, homeported in Norfolk, Va.
Air commanding officer, Capt. Primeau will be responsible for the accomplishment
of his ship’s assigned mission, for its operational readiness and the overall
supervision of the officers and enlisted men assigned.
His ship is 581 feet long, displaces 16,500 tons and carried a crew of 530
officers and enlisted men. She serves as a “floating store” for the Fleet and is
stocked with more than 25,000 general technical supply items. While deployed,
she provides underway re-supply for other combat ships assigned to the fleet.
A 1952 graduate of La Crosse State, with a bachelor of science degree, he joined
the Navy in September 1953.

A young woman, active in many organizations at Colby High School, has been named
recipient of the Daughters of the Amerian Revolution (DAR) award/
Sue Rahm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emery Rahm, rural Colby, was selected by the
senior class and the faculty for her contributions of service, citizenship and
leadership.
In addition to being president of the FHA, Miss Rahm is a member of the band,
GAA, FBLA, National Honor Society, Annual Staff, and a member of the volleyball
and basketball teams.
She plans to attend the UW-Stout next year.

Birthday Girl—Louise Rau celebrated her 88th birthday when the Dorchester Senior
Citizens gathered at the fire hall for their Christmas party. Rau was given a
gift by the club. She was just released last week from a short stay at Medford
Memorial Hospital.

employed at Packing Corporation of America at Colby.
