Tibbett, Beverly (14 May 1983)

The Rev. Joseph Henseler officiated at the Saturday afternoon, May 14, wedding rites of Beverly Tibbett and William Poeschel. St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville served as the site for the nuptials. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Tibbett, Rt. 3 Neillsville and Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Poeschel, 305 Clay St., Neillsville.

Serving as matron of honor was Carolyn Anason. Bridesmaids were Terri Bernier, Michelle Tibbett, Patti Schrader and Tonya Poeschel. Bestman was David Kronberger. He was joined by Nick Poeschel, Duane Poeschel, Bruce Tibbett and Doug Lightfoot. Ushering were Tim Schrader and Larry Anason.

Following the wedding, a reception was held at the Neillsville American Legion Hall. The new Mr. and Mrs. Poeschel will make their home in Neillsville.

On the afternoon of August 17, members of the Abbotsford High School classes of 1955 and 1956 met at the Meadowview Golf Course dining room for their 68th and 69th reunions. Much time was spent getting reacquainted, sharing experiences and telling stories. A meal was provided by the Meadowview dining staff. The event was arranged by the planning committee consisting of Dennis Kieser, MaryDona and Warren German, Galen Olson, Robert Gierl, Sharon Brecke and Delmer Vesely. Seventeen members were in attendance, six from the class of 1955 and eleven from the class of 1956. All had a great time and plan on holding their next reunion again in two years.

Class of ‘55 Reunion - Dale Thompson, Warren German, Elmer Schemenauer, Ron Weix, Kathy Krueger (Smiley), and Carol Marcott (Moberg).

Weiler, Jerome Peter (27 May 1941 – 30 Aug 2024)

Jerome Peter Weiler passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024 at the age of 83. Born on May 27, 1941 to Peter and Marie (Eckert) Weiler in Athens, Township of Bern. Jerome spent his early year on the family farm at Edgar, before moving to Colby when he was in third grade. He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Colby High School in 1959.

Jerome pursued high education at Northland College in Ashland, where he played football for a year before going to work at American Motors in Kenosha. On May 26, 1962, Jerome married the love of his life, Sally Hardrath. The couple initially settled in Kenosha, but soo after, in 1964, they purchased a farm near Owen, where they raised their five sons.

While running the family farm, Jerome also worked at Mandel and Hoernke Cheese Factories, and served as a milk inspector. Jerome was actively involved in his sons’ activities, serving as a cub master for many years and running Little League at the Atwood ball diamond, which he helped to build in 1975. Additionally, he coached 8th grad boys’ basketball, sharing his passion for sports with the younger generation. Jerome was an avid basketball and softball played, and found great joy in watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren plays sports over the years. He cherished the conversation he had with fellow fans during and after the games.

Jerome was known for his playful nature and love for a good laugh. He was a jokester at heart, always goofing around and finding fun in most every situation. His playful banter extended to his wife, Sally, whom he enjoyed teasing as well. The two of them shared a ver special bond, filled with love and laughter, and anyone who knew them could see the deep affection they had for one another.

Jerome had a special fondness for his apple trees, and took great pride in them. He also had a deep love for his Allis Chalmers tractors, spending countless hours tinkering with them and adding them to his collection. In additions to his tractor collection, Jerome was an avid collector of card and sports memorabilia, a hobby he nurtured for many years. He even dedicated a room in his home to store his collection. Jerome loved going to caard shows, where he was a pro at making good deals and bartering with other collections.

Jerome was a Farm Bureau member and school board participant, contributing to the community when he could. After selling the cows, Jerome built a new home on one of their forties, and then enjoyed retirement with Sally by his side. The two of them enjoyed traveling across the United States on bus tours, and spent countless hour playing cars, one of Jerome’s favorite past times.

Jerome is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years; their five children: Pal (Katherine) of Neenah, John (Ramona) of Owen, Steve (Jill) of Marshfield, Greg (Rhonda) of Owen and Russ of Owen; ten grandchildren: Tanya (Ben) Gruetzmacher, Krista (Greg) Kistler, Brad (Kylie) Weiler, Jena (Ryan) Moertel, Hailey (Nick) Weiler, Trent Weiler, Karlie Weiler, Samantha Weiler, Hayden Weiler, and Kendall Weiler; eight great-grandchildren: his siblings, Koni Krueger, Glen Weiler and Joan (Dave) Romens, and sisters-in-law, Sharon Weiler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Marie Weiler, and his brothers: Kenny (Jane) Weiler and Gary Weiler.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Green Grove Lutheran Church in Colby or to Camp Luther in Three Lakes.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the Atwood Softball Diamond, W3370 County Highway N, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a short program at 11:30 a.m.

Polzin, Bernice (26 November 1977)

Married by the Rev. Kenneth L. Loehrke in Christ Lutheran Church, Saturday, Nov. 26 were Bernice Polzin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Polzin, Abbotsford and Roger Sauer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sauer, Colby.

The bride sang The Lord’s Prayer and Jackie Apfelbeck and Amy Lindberg sang the Wedding Song and We’ve Only Just Begun during the 3 p.m. ceremony. Mrs. Norman Kommer was the organist.

For the occasion the bride wore a white chiffon gown with gold lace over white taffeta, which was given to her by her sister, Mary Schalk. Her three tiered lace edged veil cascaded from a crown headpiece.

Attending the bride were Mrs. Mery Schalk, Wayne, Wis., and Mrs. Martha Ried, Colby, Barb Augustine, Unity and Mrs. Shelly Strathmann, Colby, all friends of the bride. Flower Girl was Nicole Kleparski, Unity and ring bearer was Traci Westerhausen, Marshfield.

The matron of honor was attired in a green, floor length dress with rounding neck. The dress was trimmed with feathered fur. The bridesmaids wore matching red dresses.

Mitch Surman, Dorchester, Roger Ried, Colby, both friends of the groom and Clifford Sauer, Schofield, brother of the groom and Jim Kappi, Stratford, cousin of the groom, were the attendants. Rick Kleparski and Charles Polzin performed ushering duties.

Following the wedding a dinner was served to 150 guests and a wedding dance was held at Memorial Hall in the evening.

The bride and groom are both employed at the S&K Dairy Equipment, Colby and will make their home at 201 S. First Street in Colby.

Clark Co.-UW-Superior (Dean’s List - 1977)

Ellen Brunker and Laurie Sterzinger, Colby, join a total of 228 students at the UW-Superior who have been named to the first quarter 1977-78 Dean’s list.

To become eligible for the list, a student must earn 15 or more quarter hours of credit and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 out of a possible 4.0.

In offering congratulations to those on the list, John C. Haugland, vice chancellor for academic affairs at UW-S, stated, “You are among the select group of student scholars and should be justifiably proud of your academic achievement. This distinction is earned only through hard work and long hours of study, and I wish you continued success in your academic pursuits.”

Brunker, a junior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Brunker, 306 Adams St. and Sterzinger, a senior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Sterzinger, Sr., Rt. 1 Colby.

Colby FFA Alumni (Charter Banquet - 1977)

The next regular Coby FFA Alumni meeting will be Wednesday evening, Jan. 11, at the Redwood Supper Club, Unity. This will also be the Alumni Charter Banquet, with a family style meal at 8 p.m.

Presenting the FFA Alumni charter and also guest speaker, will be the State Alumni President, Armin Fruechte, director of public relations for Tri-State Breeders Co-op, Westby.

Tickets for the Jan. 11 banquet may be obtained from any of the Alumni Officers or Ag Instructor who are: Don Koerner, Jim Rankel, Mrs. Alice Bender, Dennis Krueger, Dave Rau or Don Spranger.

President Don Koerner urged people to, “mark the Jan. 11 date on the new ’78 calendar, help support your FFA Chapter and join the Alumni.”
