Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Runge, Milwaukee, are the parents of a son, Chad Michael, born January 5, 1978 at Milwaukee. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Rankl, Abbotsford, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Runge, Unity.

Great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Carlson, Dorchester and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rankl, Abbotsford. Great-great-grandfather is Anton Carlson, Dorchester.

Martens, Erwin R. (25 Apr 1901 – 5 Jan 1978)

Services for Erwin R. Martens, Abbotsford, who died at his home Thursday, January 5, 1978, of an apparent heart attack, were held Saturday at the Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kenneth Loehrke officiated and burial was made in the Abbotsford Cemetery. The Maurina Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Martens was born April 25, 1901 in the Town of Mayville. He lived in Marshfield until 1918 and on June 23, 1935 married the former Viola Patitz, who survives him.

The couple farmed in the Town of Colby until 1945, and later moved to a farm in the Town of Frankfort. They retired in 1959 and moved to Abbotsford, where he was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Winnifred) Herrmann, Colby; two sons, Norman Martens, Edgar, and Norbert, Unity; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Three sisters preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Larry Haas, Ronald Haas, David Martens, Glen Rachu, Bill Devereaux and Richard Haderlein.

Schmidt, Donald (9 Sep 1956 – 5 Jan 1978)

Donald Schmidt, Colby, died Thursday, January 5, 1978 at General Hospital in Madison of a heart attack. He was 22 years old.

Services conducted by Rev. Kenneth Dix were held Monday at the First United Church of Christ, Colby, and burial was in Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Schmidt was born September 9, 1956 at Marshfield. He graduated from Colby High School in 1974 and for the past three years was employed at Wick Building Systems.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Schmidt, Colby; a sister, Mrs. Michael (Connie) Kilty, Edgar; three brothers, David, Daniel and Ronald Erick, all at home; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Arthur Schmidt, Colby.

His maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Mike Schnabel, Delmar Dahlke, Richard Stibbe, Rick Podevels, Rod Edblom and Douglas Nacker.

Addie George, Colby, celebrated her 98th birthday recently. She lives with her sister, Lydia Jones, a retired school teacher who is 85 years old. Mrs. George, who was a seamstress in earlier days, is enjoying good health and says she has had only one cold in the past 13 years.

About 25 parishioners from St. Louis Catholic Church were at Eau Claire Sunday to attend the 50th anniversary of the Rev. Gerald Schuh, a former pastor here. He served here at St. Louis Church for 16 years. His anniversary to the priesthood was observed at Sacred Heart Church at Eau Claire, with his two brothers, Monsignor A. N. Schuh, Marshfield, and the Rev. Myron Schuh of North Dakota, also taking part in the anniversary Mass.

Herbert J. Stickbauer, White Lake, forfeited $169 in Clark County Court, January 17, 1978, on a charge of not having a valid driver’s license. The offense, which occurred in Dorchester, was reduced by the Assistant District Attorney from operating after revocation.

Engelking, Edward (Pete) (24 Mar 1917 – 19 Jan 1978)

Edward (Pete) Engelking, Abbotsford, died suddenly at his home about 5 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 1978 following an apparent heart attack. He was 60 years old.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, with the Rev. Robert Everhard officiating. Funeral was in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery. The Knaack-Thompson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 865 of Abbotsford conducted services Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Engelking was born March 24, 1917 at Sandborn, Wisconsin, where he received his education. He was a veteran of World War II and had served in the Philippines.

An Abbotsford resident since 1945, Mr. Engelking worked for the Soo Line Railroad on the section crew for many years, and was a member of the Abbotsford VFW Post 865.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Sadie Engelking, Abbotsford; four sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Margaret) Schraufnagel, Abbotsford, Mrs. Sylvester (Marie) Schraufnagel, Glidden, Mrs. Arnold (Florence) Schraufnagel, Green Bay, and Mrs. William (Edna) Burweger, Ashland.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

Pallbearers were Clarence Carpenter, Henry Grube, Jim Nikolay, Bernard Kunze, Donald Ingersol and Harold Papenfuss.

Bio: Pinter, Gregory L. – Completes Infantry Combat Training (Jan 1978)

Marine Private First Class Gregory L. Pinter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Pinter of Route 1, Box 134, Abbotsford, has completed the infantry combat training course at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California.

During the six-week course, he received classroom instruction and participated in field exercise involving infantry tactics; the construction and camouflage of fighting positions; and the use of mines, demolitions and intra-company communications equipment. His specialized training centered on the operation, deployment and maintenance of recoilless rifles, anti-tank rockets and flame throwers.

A 1976 graduate of Abbotsford High School, he joined the Marine Corp in August 1972.

News: Abbotsford – Property Sold (Jan 1978)

Property sold by Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kalepp to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brodhagen was one of the transfers recorded at the Register of Deeds Office at Neillsville from January 11 to January 16.

The property was describes as lots 9 and 10 of Cutter’s Addition to Abbotsford.
