Neillsville-New Consignment Store (Sassy Suites - 2024)

on Hewett Street. June Thompson/Clark County Press
By June Thompson
Downtown Neillsville on Hewett Street has another business to attract local
shoppers. Sassy’s Suites Consignment is located at the corner of 5th and Hewett
Streets in the previous All Seasons Sport ‘N Archery store.
Robert “Bob” and Regina “Regi” Sebesta, and their daughter Sheryl, opened the
store Aug 21. “Robert and I talked about it. No one wanted to rent the building
space, so we decided to open a consignment store,” said Regi Sebesta.
They purchased the building nearly a year ago and this is the first time they’ve
had a consignment store.
“People can bring just about anything in . . . if we think it’ll sell,” said
Regi Sebesta. “We prefer clean items, or brand-new items.” Sebesta’s don’t want
anything that is gasoline-powered like chainsaws, or appliances. They don’t want
weapons, guns or knives.
“We’ll do an inventory list of what they (clients) bring in. We’ll give them an
index card for personal information and mail a check once a month of items that
sell,” said Regi Sebesta. “Our goal is to be profitable,” she said. If items
don’t sell, the client has the option of taking them back.
“I feel that with more businesses in the old business district, it should help
bring in more outside as well as more local shoppers,” said Bob Sebesta. “We’re
going to be more like a variety store with a lot of different items that’ll help
keep bringing shoppers back into the area.”
Sheryl Sebesta does more of the behind-the-scenes work. “Although I may not be
seen in the store often, I am an integral part of keeping the store running
smoothly,” she said. “I am just one piece of the puzzle; together, we create
this beautiful vision of what we call Sassy’s Consignment.”
“As a business owner, I want to be a part of what keeps our community thriving,”
Sheryl Sebesta said. “I genuinely believe that Sassy’s Consignment, as well as
fellow business owners in the Neillsville area, can enliven, revitalize and
improve the city of Neillsville for future generations to come.”
In addition to selling consignments items, the Sebesta’s sell honey. Bob Sebesta
is a beekeeper. Some of the items in the store are furniture, crystal jewelry,
clothing, household items, plants, and wall décor.
Store hours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sundays.

Unity Bank Celebrates 145 Years of the Neillsville Bank (2024)
By June Thompson
The banking industry has a long history in Neillsville dating back to 1879
before Neillsville was incorporated. That’s when Daniel Gates and his brother
J. L. Gates started a private bank, calling it Neillsville Bank.
One of the locations of the Neillsville Bank was at the corner of Hewett and
Sixth Streets. In 1975, the bank moved to 500 West Street and later became
Mid-Wisconsin Bank in 1990.
Several years later, in 2013, the bank was purchased by Nicolet National Bank.
Two years later (2015), Unity Bank took over operations of the original
Neillsville Bank.
Over a hundred years later, on Aug. 22, 2024, Unity Bank, its employees,
members, and the community celebrated 145 years of the Neillsville Bank’s
history.
“The bank was remodeled last summer,” said Michelle Friemoth, branch manager of
Unity Bank. “It is a lot more efficient.” She showed guests artifacts and
memorabilia from Neillsville Bank.
After the celebration, a time capsule of historical items was buried for another
hundred years.
Barb Miller, long-time employee of the Neillsville Bank, has worked at the bank
since 1978. She displayed a copy of the Clark County Press dated Oct. 23, 1975.
A photo of the newly built Neillsville Bank (later Mid-Wisconsin Bank) was on
the front page.
After nearly 50 years in its present location, the bank’s architecture still has
a modern appearance, though it has undergone many alterations.
“There have been a lot of changes,” Miller said. She has worked with many
people. “I love my job. I love my customers.” One of the most important things
she’s learned over the years is to “be respectful of people.”
As branch manager, Friemoth has goals for Unity Bank. “I want to focus on
relationships with the Neillsville community, and help people achieve their
goals,” she said. Friemoth showed guests enlarged photos of the Neillsville
Bank’s locations and portrait of one of the early board members.
No one knows for certain what banking will be like a hundred years from now, or
who will own Unity Bank then. But in the year 2124, the time capsule will be
reopened once again. Historical items from the Neillsville Bank will be seen by
curious folks who hopefully will appreciate history.

Greenwood Introduces New Teacher (Lebal - 2024)
Jillian Lebal has joined the School District of Greenwood, as the new
agricultural teacher and FFA advisor, starting her career with the 2024-25
school year. Submitted photo
By Edward DuBois
With the new school year in full swing, The School District of Greenwood has
announced a new addition to its staff.
In Greenwood, the school district has welcomed Jillian Lebal to start her
teaching career in the 2024-25 school year.
Lebal was given a questionnaire to fill out for The Press if she so chose in an
effort to introduce her to those who reside in the school district.
Jillian Lebal
Lebal, of Granton, is the new agricultural teacher and FFA advisor.
Lebal’s education includes a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education from
the University of Wisconsin River Falls.
Lebal has two years’ experience teaching in a neighboring district.
“My FFA experience, as well as my FFA advisor, is what inspired me to enter the
education world,” Lebal said. “I had so much fun in ag classes and FFA events
that I wanted to become an advisor for other students to enjoy what I did.
“Watching students develop leadership and speaking skills is one of the best
parts of the job. I also think it is very important to teach students, farm or
non-farm, about agriculture and how much it impacts our lives.
“I will be celebrating one year of marriage with my husband this fall. Together,
we have a spunky golden retriever named Maise.
“In my time away from school, I love to bake, craft, garden and go for walks
with Maise and my husband.”

Behounek, Joleen Margaret “Jo” (7 September 1951 – 30 September 2024)
Joleen "Jo" M. Behounek passed away peacefully on the of September 20, 2024, at
the age of 73, in the comfort of her home in Unity, Wisconsin. Her passing was a
gentle closing to a life rich in love and family, as she was encircled by her
loved ones and attended to by the caring staff of Compassus Hospice.
Jo was born on the September 7, 1951, in the humble town of Winnebago,
Minnesota, to the late George and Mildred (Millman) Rothe. The stories of her
childhood days were often shared with a tender nostalgia that painted a picture
of a small town filled with immense love and community spirit. A spirited alumna
of Delavan High School, she graduated in the class of 1969, taking with her not
only academic knowledge but also a heart forever fond of her early chapter in
Delavan, Minnesota.
The walk down the aisle for Jo was a promise of a lifetime of togetherness with
her soulmate, Kenneth Behounek. Their love persisted through the seasons,
creating a beautiful tapestry of memories spanning 52 years of marriage. United
as one, they built a home where laughter rang loud and support was unwavering—a
home where their daughter, Lindsay, always knew she was treasured.
As a homemaker, Jo dedicated herself to the well-being of her family, crafting a
nurturing environment where each day was a testament to her loving and
thoughtful nature. Her creative spirit found joy in simple pleasures, piecing
together intricate 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles by Charles Wysocki, and allowing
her mind to wander the landscapes of Australia through the pages of books. She
delighted friends and family alike with a kangaroo collection that spoke to her
admiration for the land down under.
Jo's artistic pursuits were not confined to hobbies, for she embraced the
written word with unmatched passion, authoring novels that remain as an enduring
legacy of her creativity. Many evenings were spent in the company of her
favorite television characters from "MASH," as Jo's laughter echoed in the
family living room.
Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her loving husband, Ken, and
their daughter Lindsay and her fiancé. Jesse. Jo's vibrant life is also
celebrated by her sisters, Shirley Porter and Mary Rhodes, both of Burnsville,
MN, Jan (Lon) Hyland of Blue Earth, MN, Barb (Tom) Laven of Mapleton, MN, and
Vicki (Todd) Johnson of Blue Earth, MN. The pitter-patter of her cherished pets,
cats "Roxie" and "Rambo" along with her grand dog "Gizmo," added joy to her days
and will continue to evoke her nurturing touch.
Preceding her in passing are her parents; her stepfather, Ray Nogel; her sister,
Dorothy "Dottie" Baker; and brothers-in-law, Bruce Rhodes, Dave Laven, Ed
Porter, and Jim Baker; along with nephews, Josh Johnson and James Baker.
On Saturday, October 12, 2024, a Celebration of Jo’s Life will be held from 12
P.M. to 3 P.M. at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer with time starting at 2
P.M. to share stories and memories about Jo.
With Jo’s love of pets, the family requests that any flowers or plants sent to
the family be pet friendly and safe for their cherished fur-babies.
Jo’s arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer. To
