Fischer, Robert R. (29 September 1922 – 6 June 1983) With Flag
Neillsville native Robert R. Fischer, 60, who was active in numerous state
Masonry, died on Monday morning, June 6. He was pronounced dead on arrival at
Riverview Hospital in Wis. Rapids.
The deceased was born on September 29, 1922, in Neillsville to Irvin and Beula
(Harper) Fischer. He received his education in Greenwood, graduating from
Greenwood High in 1941. He then worked as a cheesemaker and manager of a cheese
factory in Greenwood until 1944 when he entered the U.S. Army. Prior to his
discharge in 1946, he served with the 738th Tank Battalion in Europe, Africa and
Asia.
When Fischer returned from the military, he married Reba Shutter in Tomah
ceremonies. He then worked for the Marathon County milk quality program. In
1949, he began work for the state as a dairy and food inspector and the couple
made their home in Plymouth. In 1952, they moved to Nekoosa. In 1976, due to
failing health he retired from his state position. Fischer also owned and
operated Rebob Trailer Sales in Wis. Rapids from 1964 to 1979.
Fischer was very active in Masonic organizations. He was past patron of the
Rainbow Chapter No.86 of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also past Grand
Patron of the Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star for Wisconsin and
served as past High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons.
His Masonic-connected memberships included the F&AM Lodge No. 224 of Marshfield,
the Eau Claire Consistory, The Zor Shrine of Madison, The Royal Arch Masons No.
49 of Wis. Rapids and the Order of the Eastern Star Rainbow Chapter No. 87 of
Wis. Rapids.
Surviving him, besides his wife, is a daughter, Jacqueline, of Nekoosa. He was
preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were to be held today (Thursday, June 9) at 1:30 p.m. from the
Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. The Rev. Howard Ott of the United Methodist
Church was to officiate with burial to be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
(Visitation was to be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. and again
on Thursday morning until time of service. Masonic services were to be held at
7:30 p.m., Wednesday followed by Order of the Eastern Star services.)
