Sollberger, Mr. and Mrs. William (Golden – 1983)
Writer of Columbia news marks anniversary:
Tuesday, June 7, was the golden wedding anniversary of William and Irma
(Ackerman) Sollberger.
We were married on June 7, 1933, at the American Lutheran parsonage near
Granton. Our attendants were my brother, Cecil Ackerman, who passed away April
2, 1935, at the age of 25, and Verna Kosmosky (later Mrs. Frank Lesar of
Willard), who was a high school classmate. She is also deceased.
We had planned nothing special for the day but there were others who knew of the
occasion. Cards and gifts came in the mail and early in the forenoon, Dr. J. W.
and Ruth Brooks surprised us with a visit and a potted flowering maple in bud
and in a gold colored jardiniere.
Shortly after we heard someone say, “Is anyone at home?” and here was Bill’s
niece, Joan Sollberger Speers who had traveled from Minneapolis with a gift and
planned to take us out for dinner. We went for a drive through beautiful
Columbia country and had lunch at the Riviera. Taking another route we returned
home, and Joan assisted in some household chores in preparation for a small
group which I had learned were coming for the evening.
Here for the evening to help us remember our 50th were Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Berthold and Jean of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knoll, JoAnne Andrews and
Conrad, all of Granton; Audrey Weyer, Tammy and Renee, Loyal; Mrs. Marvin
Scholze, Teddy and Helen and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Scholze, all of Humbird. They
are all members of our Christian fellowship.
There was a golden bell hung from the ceiling, an anniversary cake, ice cream,
etc., which all enjoyed. Gifts and cards were opened and thus ended a very
special day.
Bruce Poehnlein of Neillsville stopped in Saturday afternoon with a gift and
wishes for our anniversary. He has assisted Dr. and Mrs. Brooks with some work
on the ranch.
We have lived in Columbia country throughout the 50 years. We are active and
enjoying our senior years.
