A new shrine and statue outside of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, was
dedicated recently, with the children of the parish participating in the
program.
Second graders of the First Communion Class sang several hymns and led the
congregation in the Rosary. The program took place both inside and outside the
church. Father Frank Rushman blessed the statue, it was crowned by Dolores
Kilty, an eighth grade student.
Benediction and mass followed the dedication ceremony.
The shrine and statue were donated by John Carl Schemmer in memory of his
parents, Dr. and Mrs. A. L. Schemmer, a local physician in the Colby area for
many years.
The statue was imported from Italy.
