Krause, Janet Marie (9 March 1948 – 17 March 2023)

Janet Marie Krause, age 75, of Curtiss, joined her Heavenly Father on Friday, March 17, 2023, with her loving husband and children at her side, at the Marshfield Medical Center, Marshfield.

Janet, the daughter of Ferdinand and Cecelia (Wilson) Langreck, was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield on March 9, 1948. She grew up in Greenwood, attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1966. Following graduation, Janet spent a summer in Chicago as a nanny and then moved to Milwaukee and worked in the restaurant industry for the Howard Johnson’s hotel chain. She subsequently moved back to Greenwood and worked at Weyerhaeuser Company in Marshfield, while also working with her parents, Ferd and Cecelia, at the Parkway Bar and supper club in Greenwood, which her parents originally opened in 1964. On September 14, 1968, Janet was united in marriage with Neil Krause at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. They then moved to Owen to begin raising their family. In 1978, Janet and her family moved to the Krause homestead, Ferndell Farm in Curtiss. Janet began dedicating her life to dairy farming and tilling, planting, and harvesting crops, while also working several part time jobs in Owen.

Janet had a genuine love for life and enjoyed laughing and spending time with family and friends. She loved her husband and four beautiful children deeply and taught them everything she knew about the Catholic faith, generosity, hard work, and compassion. Janet was generous with her time and found endless ways to care for others, especially children and those in need. She was an active member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church’s Peace and Justice Committee, creating angel ornaments for the Angel Tree so children in need within the community could receive Christmas presents. She also served as circle chairman in the Parish Council of Christian Women (PCCW), volunteering for Christmas Tree Lane with silver tea events and homemade craft fundraisers.

Janet’s love of music began early in life. As an accomplished musician, she loved singing and played the accordion in a family band and later for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and quilted blankets for at-risk infants in the hospital, Christmas tree skirts for family, and baby and Christmas blankets for her children and grandchildren. She cherished watching birds and crafting floral arrangements, wreaths, and decorations for special events and loved ones. Janet spent hours fishing and planting beautiful flowers on her front porch and in her yard. She frequently gathered her family, extended family, and friends to enjoy her gourmet meals, lively conversations, and competitive card games.

Janet was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who attentively listened, provided support, and offered her wisdom with a tender and caring heart. She could comfort any infant or child with her soothing embrace, nurturing demeanor, and vast experience. Janet always had a beautiful bright smile, sense of humor with a touch of mischief, and always put others’ needs before her own. Above all, she was devoted to her Catholic faith. She was a beautiful person who truly embodied the Bible verse of “Love is patient, love is kind,” and brought these words to life each day with those she encountered.

Janet is survived by her husband of 54 years, Neil; four children: John (Kathleen) Krause of Green Bay, Wayne (Tanya) Krause of Fremont, Renee (Nathaniel) Harms of Waupaca, and Shari (Timothy) Tieman of Thorp; 13 grandchildren: Maegan, Isaac, Grace, and Emma Krause; Maxwell and Joseph Krause; Cecelia, Ethan, and Erik Harms; and Zachary, Connor, Carter, and Mitchell Tieman. She is further survived by her five siblings: Josephine Lindner, Joseph (Mary) Langreck, Mary (Frank) Trunkel, Patricia (Richard) Scherer, and Robert (Elaine) Langreck; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Marie Langreck, Denice Langreck, Gregory (Patricia) Krause, and Carol (Robert) Lindau; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Ferdinand and Cecelia Langreck; three brothers: Francis, Donald, and Gregory Langreck; her sister: Cecelia, who passed in infancy; brother-in-law: Lawrence Lindner; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Soloman and Emma Krause; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 415 West Third Street, Owen, WI, with Father Michael Hayden officiating. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwood. Visitation will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, and again on Saturday, March 25, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. The visitation on Friday will begin with a Rosary Service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral service Pallbearers will be Janet’s thirteen grandchildren: Maegan, Isaac, Grace, and Emma Krause; Maxwell and Joseph Krause; Cecelia, Ethan, and Erik Harms; and Zachary, Carter, Connor, and Mitchell Tieman.
