Mrs. William (Mollie) Hilt Sr., a resident of the Thorp Care Center and Owen
resident for more than 60 years, was honored at a birthday celebration November
13 at the Char Lounge in Thorp, the occasion being celebrated was her 100th
birthday. She had been at the center the past four years.
Hosting the party for the centenarian were he son and daughter in law Mr. and
Mrs. William Hilt. A Sunday morning Mass was read for her at Holy Rosary
Catholic Church, Owen.
The Senior William Hilts were in the jewelry business while in Owen. In 1951
they sold the business to the Donald Rineharts and that spring the couple moved
to Oshkosh. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Hilt returned to Owen,
living in her former home above the jewelry store.
She was one of nine children, most of them living a long life. Her brother
George died at 115 and another at 102. Her sister, Mrs. Bessie Spillman, 92,
flew in from San Diego for the occasion.
