Irish, Leslie (21 May 1893 – 25 January 1984)
Leslie Irish, a former farmer and pulper in the Shortville area, died on
Wednesday, January 25m, in Neillsville Memorial Hospital. Irish, 90,k had made
his home at 211 Hewett St., Neillsville for the past four years.
The deceased was born on May 21, 1893, in Big Lake, Minn., to Clarence and Mary
(Short) Irish. He received his education in Minnesota schools and then moved
with his parents to the Shortville area. He then farmed and did wood pulping.
Irish later moved to Minneapolis where he was a machinist with Superior Plating
for 31 years. When he retired, he made his residence at Mound, Minn. On December
12, 1965, he married Bernie Lay in Sisseton, S.D., ceremonies. (This was his
second marriage; no information was available on the first.) After 1965, the
couple lived in Minnesota and Ohio before moving to Neillsville about four years
ago. He was a member of the Neillsville Assembly of God.
Surviving him, besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. John (Margarett)
Gansmoe of Bloomington, Minn., and Mrs. Jim (Mary) Savoie of Excelsior, Minn.;
five stepchildren; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was
preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 28, from the Neillsville
Assembly of God with the Rev Lloyd Hohn officiating. Burial was made in the
Neillsville City Cemetery and the pallbearers were Louis, Gary and Tom
Zschernitz, Andreas Lutz and John and Darwin Lay. Music for the service was
offered by Mary Hohn. Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Attending the service from Minnesota were Mr./Mrs. John Lay, Mankato; Mr./Mrs.
Darwin Lay, Apple Valley; Mr./Mrs. Fred Holtkamp, Cokota; Mrs. John Halvorson,
Greenfield; Mr./Mrs. Francis Holm, Stillwater; Mrs. Rick Rutz, Cologne; Laura
Williams, North Branch, John Gansmoe and family, Bloomington; and Mr./Mrs. Jim
Savoie, Minneapolis.
