On November 13, 1955, in spite of very inclement weather, our new church was dedicated by Qr. F.I. Schmidt, President of the Eastern District. He was assisted by the Reverends A.E. Norson, T.M. Nelson, Max Wilhelm, Frank Salveson, J. Christianson, Mark Gravadahl, Luther Borgen, and of course, Reverend Egge. We were very grateful to the ladies from Emmanuel at Longwood, who volunteered and served our pot luck dinner at noon and coffee following the dedication service. It was at this service that Dr. Sarah Rosekrans of Neillsville, a well-known soloist, sang "Bless This House" and "The. Lord's Praler", accompanied by our organist, Mrs. Warner.
In December 1955, Reverend Egge announced his resignation and that he would be leaving us in February, 1956. Pastor [.J. Tanner accepted our call and on July 8, 1956 he was installed by his father, Reverend ldar J. Tanner. During the interim period preceding Reverend Tanner, the Reverend Pfohl from Loyal was called upon to help out. He officiated at the first funeral in the new church - - that of Mrs. Anna Larson in April, 1956.
Pastor Egge had officiated at the first wedding on May 28, 1955, uniting Eula Jackson and Paul Franz. He also officiated at the first baptism, that of Corinne Sue Turnquist, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Art Turnquist. Just prior to his departure, Reverend Egge confirmed a class consisting of Jerome Behrens, Romaine Ellingson, Harry Johnson, Alice Turnquist, Corinne Verhuist, Bonnie Johnson, Evelyn Clouse and Roger Olson, they being the first confirmants in the new church.
On Memorial Day, 1958, a belated confirmation reunion was held, About 200 people attended the open house. Among them were Annie Peterson Dure of the class of 1889, and her sister, I ngebor Peterson Hogue, of the class of 1890. The oldest living confirmant at that time was Chris Richelieu of the class of 1882 - - who was unable to attend. Since then all of those have gone to their eternal reward.
Pastor Tanner remained with us until June 1960. From then until August 1, when Pastor Myhrwold came, Judge Christianson from Janesville came to fill the vacancy. He and Mrs. Christianson attended the Aid meetings and as many other activities as their time allowed.
Pastor Myhrwold remained until August 1969, when he accepted a call to Downsville, During the time he was here, we shared our basement with the Greenwood Community School. Kindergarten classes were held there in the forenoons during the school year, for two and one half years until the new Elementary school building was completed. Both pastor and Mrs. Myhrwold were active in church and community affairs.
It was through Pastor Myhrwold's efforts that an Ecumenical Service was planned. He left us before a meeting was held. However, Pastor Wenger, along with Father Koopman of the Catholic Church and Pastor Logue of Zion and Immanuel, carried out the plan, In the fall of 1969, a meeting was held at Zion Church with the above named clergymen taking part. A large choir, made up of members from each of the churches added much to the program. Since that time, similar services have been held each year in one or the other church taking part. The Methodist Church has joined the group, also.
