 Women of the Church

On February 1, 1899 the ladies of the church organized the first “Ladies Aid.”  Their first meeting was at the parsonage. Pastor Hummel was their pastor at that time.  Twelve ladies became members at this time and more were added each year.  The ladies decided to have their monthly meetings at their homes.   Each member gave ten cents to get it started.  The names of some of the charter members were: Beer, Braatz, Gerber, Goebel, Hillert, Hummel, Kurth, Scholtz and Thiede.

In 1903 they made a quilt and raffled it off for $4.00.

In 1905 they bought a lectern for $8.00.

Some of the things the Aid has done are: bought altar and communion cloths, help pay for electric lights and carpeting.  They bought the doorbell and carpeting for the parsonage. They bought Edward Winter's ordination gown.  Folding chairs and tables, dishes, stove, sink, water heater, refrigerator, silverware, piano, coffeemakers, Christmas tree lights and trimmings, hymnals and curtains for the basement were bought. They are buying new carpeting for the church as a centennial project.

The birthday box was started in 1940.  The money collected from this was used to buy life membership pins for its members.

They have placed Easter Lilies on the altar at Easter time since 1941.

The members have served for the Diamond Jubilee in 1939, for Pastoral Conference, Junior and Senior Banquet, Luther League Rally, Mother-Daughter Banquet, Mission Festivals, Childrens’ Day, Weddings and Funerals.

They have sent donations to some of the following places: Lutheran Welfare, Red Cross, Crippled Children's Home at Jamestown, New Guniea Christmas Packages, Old Folks Home at Fond du Lac and Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Negro Missions, Flood Relief, Homme Homes for Boys and the Aged, Oakwood Home, General treasury of American Lutheran Church, Old Folks Home at Fargo, North Dakota, Wernle Children's Home, clothes to Korean Orphanage, $25.00 for the support of an Indian child and also Christmas cheer boxes for young people in service and the aged.

At present we have an afternoon group and an evening group. The Rebekah Group ( the evening group) was started in February 1963. This group meets the third Monday evening of each month. The afternoon group meets the second Thursday of each month.
