Zion American Lutheran Church
OUR SISTER CONGREGATION
ZION AMERICAN OF PINE VALLEY
Church services for this congregation run back as far as 1871, when the meetings were held in the school house. At that time the services were held every three weeks. The pastor came by horse power from Granton. He would arrive at the William Beyer home Saturday night and one of the Beyer boys hurried out to care for his horse. He was paid $150.00 a year.
The first pastor to serve this parish was Pastor J. H. Witte. He came in 1871 and left in 1876. Pastor Fisher was installed July 5, 1877. He served this congregation for seventeen years.
The charter of the Pine Valley Lutheran Zion Congregation was set up with the help and guidance of Pastor P. H. Haas in the beginning of his service here in the year of 1901. The names of the charter members were: William Beyer, August Beyer, W.C. Thoma, Frederick Puttkammer, August Dux, William Dux, Frederick Wegner and Julius Goldamer.
In 1901 Wilhelm Beyer and his wife Tena donated an acre of land on which the church should be built. The congregation then obtained another half acre from the Wilhelm Beyer land. The basement was built in 1901 and the church was built in 1902.
