Countryside Treasures
Co-owner Michele Baxter strikes a pose at her new
business venture Countryside Treasures; By Nancy Curtin Countryside Treasures located on USH 10 west of Granton is an exciting new vendor mall offering a perfect destination for one-of-a-kind finds. Webmaster’s Note: Countryside Treasures is located 3 miles south of Granton at Opening its doors to the public May 16, Countryside Treasures offers a variety of booths with vintage riches, antiques, up-cycled and refurbished items, specialty boutiques, western wear, home décor, gifts and a variety of hand-made and resale items. “I strive to attract various vendors offering an assortment of products to appeal to a variety of people of all ages,” co-owner Michele Baxter said. Baxter and her husband started the Farmer’s Pantry out of a three-car garage. Over the next six years, they opened additional stores in Marshfield, Thorp and Colby. During this time, she decided to focus her efforts on the family and sold the business while maintaining ownership of the building. Baxter began exploring her options after receiving notice the owners were closing the Granton store to concentrate on the remaining three locations. While shopping in the Eau Claire area, Baxter stumbled across “The Shed” in Altoona, a vendor mall offering a variety of antiques and other items. “Seeing a store like that sparked the idea for this location,” Baxter revealed. “The store owner was very helpful with advice and guidance on how to make my idea a reality.” Thus far, she has relied on word of mouth and social media along with the Amish and Mennonite communities in the search for vendors and to promote this new venture. Vendors rent a spot and supply the product to sell, while Baxter and her daughter handle the day-to-day business. Countryside Treasures will also host flea markets Friday and Saturday in the first and third weekend of each month, throughout the summer and into fall. The first flea market held May 20 and 21 resulted in a handful of vendors and many patrons. The weather that weekend was perfect. “I hope to generate a good amount of foot traffic with the flea markets and the location,” Baxter said. “It would be nice to see cars parked up and down Maple Road and possibly disrupting traffic.” With the ever-changing variety, you never know what treasures you will find. Store hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed on Sundays.
