The convention took place July 6 through July 10 and was the first ever to take place virtually.   

Hannah Walter and Rhiannon Reimer, both of whom just graduated from high school, earned their State FFA Degrees.

The State FFA Degree is the highest degree an FFA member can earn, other than the American FFA Degree.

Among other requirements, award recipients must have been members of FFA for at least 24 months and served as an officer or committee chair for their FFA chapter.

The State FFA Degree is signified by a gold pin that is worn above an FFA member’s name on the FFA jacket.

Several students earned proficiency awards, showing their knowledge, skills and recordkeeping for a particular area of expertise related to agriculture.

Reimer earned the first-place Diversified Crop Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award. Her application will advance to Nationals. Reimer was also a finalist for the Star in Agribusiness Award, placing fifth overall. In addition, she received the Three-Star Leader Award. Reimer grows and sells her own fruits and vegetables and takes care of the school orchard.

Brandon Jakobi earned the second-place Agricultural Services Proficiency Award. Jakobi, who will be a junior, runs his own round baling business for farmers in the area.

Walter earned the third-place Diversified Livestock Production Proficiency Award. Walter takes care of the dairy cattle and pigs on her family farm, and artificially inseminates cows and sows.

Kayla Johnson earned the third-place Small Animal Production and Care Proficiency Award. Johnson has her own pet-sitting business and also volunteers at the Clark County Humane Society. She will be a sophomore in college at UW-River Falls. She is studying companion animal science.

Johnson and fellow Granton alumnus Jillian Tyler were both awarded Wisconsin FFA Foundation scholarships. Johnson received the Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association Scholarship.

Tyler received the Louis M. Sasman of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Madison Endowment. She graduated from Granton in 2018 and is attending UW-River Falls, majoring in agricultural education.

The Granton FFA chapter also earned awards. The chapter won the Largest Percentage of School Population Award with 93.5 percent of school students being enrolled in FFA. It was named a Gold Rated Chapter based on its National Chapter Award application. The chapter is now eligible to compete for a National FFA three-star, two-star or one-star rating.
