Five young ladies are running for the title of 2014-15
Granton Fall Festival Queen.
The 64th annual Granton Fall Festival is coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-7. This year’s theme is "The Wizard of Oz,” suggesting to Granton residents and alumni “There’s no place like home!" All weekend events include community garage sales, food stands at the fire station, a co-ed softball tournament at the park and exhibits by the Granton Antique Tractor Club. The queen coronation will be held at the fires station Friday, Sept. Queen candidates are Cassie Pettit, Danielle Anding, Jessica Richmond, Kayla Klahn and Page Vandeberg. The program includes the introduction of honored citizens, grandparents and friends of the first responders and the announcement of the Medallion Hunt winner. The Tri-State Pullers Tractor Pull, hosted by the Granton Fire & Rescue, follows at 7:30 p.m. Local diesel tractors and 8,000-pound open class diesel trucks will also compete. Friday evening will be capped off with DJ music by CSR from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. sponsored by Kandy Girl. Saturday features a fishing contest at the Granton Pond for children through eighth grade from 10 a. m. to noon. Other activities sponsored by the Granton FFA begin at 1 p.m., including a penny scramble, frog jumping and a kiddy pedal pull. Free inflatables by Rock-n-Roll to go will be enjoyed from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Chipping in to sponsor the inflatables are the Granton PTO, the Fall Festival Committee, Jakobi Crop Bagging, Citizen State Bank of loyal and the Granton Athletic Boosters. The flower show begins at 1:30 p.m. at the village hall. Deadline for entries is 1 p.m. The Fall Bake-off Competition will be held at the fire station. Entries will be accepted starting at 4 p.m. with judging at 5 p.m. The Granton FFA sponsors this event. A beanbag toss tournament, sponsored by the Granton FFA, begins at 2 p.m. at the fire station. Clark Derby Cars, sponsored by Schmidt Repair, take off at 2:30 p.m. A 45-mile Tri-City Car Cruise heads out at 5 p.m. Participants are asked to line up on 1st Street in Granton near Citizens State Bank. The event is sponsored by Muscle Car Restoration Parts. Tractor Central is sponsoring a Loyal Mini-Rod Pull, beginning at 6 p.m. with music by “Breakdown” sponsored by Kuhl Implement, following at the fire hall from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Enjoy chicken grilled by the Granton Rotary Club starting at 11 a.m. Sunday with music by the “Dieringer Family Band,” sponsored by Roger’s Grocery. The Grand Parade begins Sunday at 1 p.m. Children’s entries will assemble in front of the village office at 12:15. After-parade events include a cakewalk, a chicken pooh contest and entertainment by Wayne the Wizard. Those events are sponsored by Lynn Dairy, the Music Boosters and the Granton Rotary Club. The Granton Fall Festival concludes Sunday with the Badger State Dirt Slingers Truck Pull beginning at 3 p.m.
