Granton’s Honored Citizens for 2015 Wayne Garbisch and Betty Mellon

The Granton Rotary Club announced Betty Mellon and Wayne Garbisch as the honored Citizens for the 2015 Granton Fall Festival.  They were nominated by Sheryl Young.

Betty and Wayne were born in Granton to Melvin and Lovella Garbisch.  They were raised on a dairy farm, which was (and still is) located on Pelsdorf Avenue.  Their farm was initially their grandpa’s farm and then passed on to their dad.  It was a Century Farm.  Both Betty and Wayne attended the Wild Rose Country School, which as located on Granton Road.  The remainder of their education was completed in the Granton School System.

Betty is the oldest of four siblings.  After graduation, Betty moved to Milwaukee and worked 44 years for Marshall & Ilsley (M&I) Bank.  She spent all of her working career working for M&I Bank.  She worked in various areas of the bank, had many responsibilities and enjoyed every moment of it.  Betty traveled home many weekends to spend time with her family and friends and help on the farm.  After retiring from M&I, she chose to move back home to Granton, where she currently resides.

Wayne is the youngest of the four siblings.  After school, Wayne worked on the family farm helping his parents out with all of the farm work.  Wayne also worked at Pizza Hut for 15 years doing custodial work.  After the family farm was sold, Wayne moved to the village of Granton.

Betty and Wayne are real “Go To” people - wherever they are needed, they go.  Betty is a member of the Ladies Aide, LWML, assists at funeral lunches and is a member of the church choir.  Betty is also a Rotarian and helps wherever they need her.  She is a member of the Clark County Choraliers as well as a member of the Granton/Chili Senior Citizens.  Wayne mows the church lawn and is also an usher at church.  In years past, Wayne even assisted Francis Steiner with fishing trips as a chaperone.  Betty and Wayne love Granton, their house and thoroughly enjoy their neighbors and many friends in the village

Sheryl Young states, “Both Betty and Wayne are Rotarians, which shows they are true spirits of service to the community in their many volunteer efforts - along with their great attitudes and pride in their community.  They truly show concern for everyone.”

As Granton’s 2015 Honored Citizens, Betty Mellon and Wayne Garbisch will lead the 65th Granton Fall Festival parade Sunday, Sept. 13.  This is a very deserving honor for two outstanding community members .
