As Granton’s Honored Citizens, John and Lisa Richmond will lead the
Granton Fall Festival Parade Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016

The Granton Rotary Club is pleased to announce John and Lisa Richmond as the honored Citizens for the 2016 Granton Fall Festival.

John and Lisa are no strangers to small towns and family roots.  John, born in Colby and whose parents are Jessie and Virginia Richmond, is the youngest of seven children.  Lisa, who was born in Marshfield to Rudy and Lavonne Horvat, is the 10th child of 11.  Family was and is still a very strong and important aspect of their lives.

John attended Granton School from third grade on.  He was very active in sports and other organizations in high school.  He was a three-season athlete - participating in cross country, basketball and baseball.  John was also involved in band, FFA, National Honor Society (senior year), was a lifeguard, and helped Mr. Steiner as well as worked on the family farm.

Lisa attended Greenwood School. Throughout high school, she helped on the family farm with various chores.  Lisa and her siblings played many sports with their neighbors over the years.

John and Lisa met as opponents on the softball field.  They later married June 19, 1992.  They have four children: John II, Jeff, Jessica and Jill.  All of their children have graduated from Granton (with the exception of Jill, who will graduate in May of 2017).

John and Lisa are very involved in many aspects of the community.  Through just school alone, they are a part of many committees.  John is currently the school board treasurer and is a member of the Granton Area School Foundation.

Lisa plays a major role in the Green Team and has been instrumental in the development and production of many gardens on the school grounds.  Many nights, you may see her working hard in the school garden.

Both John and Lisa hold offices in the Athletic Boosters and give of their time tenfold.  John and Lisa are also both FFA Alumni members and volunteer many hours to assist with FFA events.

Outside of school committees, their dedication to the community forges on.  John is the current president of the Granton Rotary Club and has received the Paul Harris Award for his efforts in Rotary.  He also has been a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for many years.  Both of their sons were highly decorated Scouts.  John is also a member of the Granton Fall Festival Committee and secures sponsoring for that event.

Lisa has also played a vital role in the Pleasant Ridge 4-H program and taught CCD classes at St. Anthony’s for six years.  They were members of the Granton Park Committee for several years.

As stated in their nomination letter, “It is often said that when you want something done, ask a busy person.”  John and Lisa Richmond fit that statement to a tee.  They will always volunteer when needed and when asked, they won’t say no.  Their continued support and promotion of the Granton community and school are vital assets that cannot go unnoticed.

John and Lisa are grateful to their parents for helping them be community-oriented citizen and for making a difference in all that they do.  They also thank their children, who are the main reason why they do everything that have done and will continue to do.

As Granton’s 2016 Honored Citizen, John and Lisa Richmond will lead the Granton Fall Festival parade, Sunday Sept. 11.  This truly is an honor for two people who work so hard to do so much for the Granton School and community.
