Granton Rotary Honors Members

The Granton Chapter of Rotary International Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, named three Paul Harris Fellows at an awards program. The distinction for the Paul Harris Fellows is awarded to those members who donate $1,000 or have received credit for that amount of a donation to the Rotary Foundation for Humanitarian efforts.  These awards were made possible from Granton Rotary Club and Granton Rotary Club members contributions to the Rotary Foundation for the Eradication of Polio.

The three Granton Rotary members receiving the Paul Harris Fellows awards were James Chadwick, Bonnie Bartz and Marie Casperson. Each received a medallion, lapel pin and certificate honoring their designation as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Although the Granton Rotary Chapter has presently only 22 members, 25 have been awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award.  Of those 25 recipients, only 16 are currently Granton Rotary Club members. The other nine were former members.

Present for the Chapter’s celebration was the Assistant District Governor for District 6250, Bob Trusonni and his wife Monica. Trusonni presented a message from District 6250 and also assisted with the program presentations.  Granton Rotary Club still continues to be, “The greatest Little Club in District 6250."

Presently the Granton Chapter to date has given $24,800 to the Rotary Foundation and $1,250 towards a new well in Haiti. To date, the world-wide eradication of polio has almost been accomplished.

The Granton Rotary Club is a very active club usually having approximately 98-percent month attendance.  They meet every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the southern Clark County Sportsman Club in Granton.  Virginia Richmond prepares the meal each week.

Granton Rotary Club acts as a chamber of commerce for the small village and surrounding community and is known for its community service. The club was organized in 1943 and one half of its members are female.

The Granton Rotary Club participates with the Granton Fall Festival with various activities, such as selecting the honored citizen each year, having Sunday Grilled Chicken Sale at noon and Chicken Pooh Contest.  Other community’ activities are Adopt-a-highway project, volunteer at the park concession stand one night each week during the summer season, sponsor the Children’s Christmas Party, donate four scholarships to graduating seniors from the Granton High School, many other school-related activities, donate to the local food pantry and other community concerns.

The Granton Rotary Club’s goal is to do well in the world realizing the power to change thousands of lives, not only in the community but through Rotary International.

Current club officers are: James Chadwick, president; John Richmond, vice president; Ron Webster, treasurer and Jeanette Steiner, secretary.  New members or guests are always welcome.
