Cloverleaf Staff

Come December first, some smart cookie decided that we all should get busy and maybe print an annual. The senior Class, as you all know, has the reputation for being a bit lazy and it’s been nip and tuck as to whether this annual would every get to the presses. After much hustle, bustle and puffing, we finally succeeded in presenting this annual to you, our public. We hope there will be no serious repercussions caused----------------.

To whom it may concern------. Any similarity to an annual is purely coincidental and is not the fault of the staff.

Band

The Owen High School Marching and Concert Band has again lived up to the standard set in previous years. Under the leadership of Walter A. Stamstad, the forty members enjoyed another outstanding term.

During football season, the high steppers were strutting their stuff on the gridiron.  Visiting schools were greeted with a grand reception of maneuvers, music letters and marching led by the drum majorettes, Loretta Smith and Betty Jean Kraut.

After numerous hours of practice, the Owenites joined with Withee to present their first concert, playing in Withee February 27 and in Owen February 28. The outstanding number presented was “Uncle Sam in Review” which exemplified in pantomime the important events in United States History.

In May the band participated in the annual Music Festival at Eau Claire. “Balaton” by Buchtel was the required number played.

The F.H.A. has been a busy organization this year, as always. Activities, additional to the monthly meetings, are the annual Sadie Hawkins Day dance, the Silver Tea, and a Christmas party. This organization aids in developing a cooperative attitude in club work, and in promoting leadership and responsibility among the members.

The Owen High School Orchestra, under the leadership of Walter A. Stamstad, has completed another successful season. We are proud of our organization, it being the only orchestra in the surrounding territory. The chief purpose of the orchestra is to acquaint the students with the classics so they are better able to appreciate them. In April the Mixed Chorus joined with the orchestra in presenting a concert, Among the selections played were “Hymnus,” “Intermezzo from L’Arlesunni suite No. 2,” and “Minuit.” These were also the numbers played when we made our journey to the Music Festival in Eau Claire.

String Ensemble

The String Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Stamstad has completed another successful year. It has made very few public appearances but has been much appreciated when it did perform.

Perhaps the pupils which belong to the organization enjoy the music more than those who listen for they learn to know and love the world’s great compositions.  They enjoy each practice and so does the director. The compositions are often some the of modern classics by Gershwin and Coward. One the many favorites of the group is “Memory Lane.”
