The Cloverbud staff, consisting of the entire Senior Class, has once again attempted to bring news and entertainment to the members of the high school during the school term 1949-1950.

Although the idea is still comparatively new, it has been met by enthusiasm on the part of the students.

Another division of the journalistic work is the Cloverblossom.  This is a column written by the seniors and edited in the Owen Enterprise weekly.  We hope that the articles have been enjoyed by the public, and that through them out friends have obtained a clearer insight of school activities.

Events Calendar

(Page 47 & 48)

September

6                  Once more we go back to school. Many new “Freshies” due to the 16 year age law.

8         What’s this… a freshman in History Class?

12        Cloverbud and Cloverblossom staffs chosen.  Be watching for the first edition of the Cloverbud.

14        Tryouts for cheerleaders.  Really was a bunch of ‘em, but Darlene Pyatt and Dorothy Fillo seem to be the choice.

17        The football season starts out with a victorious defeat over Withee.  Sounds good, doesn’t it? I only they keep it up.

22        First issue of the Cloverbud was sold today.  How do you like it, kids? New cheerleaders were initiated at a pep meeting by putting on a football uniform. Coach Helixon and Alex Nowak showed them how it was done.  What’s the matter Denny, are you having trouble shoeing Darlene how the pants should be put on? First home game of the year, played with Loyal.  The great Owen team is again victorious. The Band showed off their marching skill. Good, huh?

23        Key Club came up with the first school dance of the year.  Lots of fun!

30        Silver made a very beautiful bride for groom Jerry Hiebsch today at the Pep Meeting.  We especially liked the pipe you were smoking, Silver! Lost the game to Neillsville.

October

5         Mr. Wyman from Wausau talked to the seniors about having class pictures taken there. All seems nice, but why did you have to tell us the handsome man was married.

6         Watch the juniors light up.  They just picked out their class rings. Senior Home Ec. girls had a visitor in class, a cute black cat.

7         Oh! What a day for the green Freshies!  They were initiated.  Upper-classmen kept them busy carrying books to class.  Sophomores sponsored a dance at night in honor of Frosh.  We would like to announce the engagement of Velda Murphy to Buzzy Hamm; he had to propose to her as a stunt.

10        Classes are busily preparing for Homecoming.  Queen and her attendants were selected today.

11        Everyone met at school tonight to see the skits.  The bonfire was held afterwards.

12        Today was “the” day. Band led the parade which was held at #:00.  F.F.A. float won 1st prize; great seniors followed with 2nd prize.  Too bad the game had to end with a defeat to Thorp.  Thorp Band marched with the Owen Band at the half.  Following the game was a dance in the gym to the music of the Varsity Boys.

13        We have survived the first six weeks.  Nice, the teachers have convention.  Too band it doesn’t come more often.

19        Big crash… someone breading the windows? Nope it was only a strong wind.

21        Football game with Auburndale. Rained. Ended up with a tie score 7-7. Freshies give return party for Sophs.

24        First forum program of the year.  Michael H. Klein had an interesting speech on “Self Pity.”

26        Senior girls have finally completed paint and redecorating the Home Ec. Cottage.

27        Owen tangles with Cornell for the last football game, ended with a defeat.

28        The lucky seniors take a day off from school to have Senior Pictures taken at Wausau.

8         Seniors enter School Press Project, hoping to win a trophy for the school.

10        All F.H.A. girls went to a rally at Thorp. We would have to get back in time for one class.

11        Armistice Day Program at 11:00.  School gets out at noon.

12        A treat for the Football squad.  They went to Eau Claire to see a football game.

15        Curtiss Publishing man was here to explain about the magazine drive.

16        Everyone looked his best group picture for the annual were taken.

18        Extra! “First Five” presented as the quintuplets. Our first basketball game. We lost, but it didn’t count because it was a non-conference tussle with Auburndale.

21        Sure can tell its hunting season, all the boys are absent from school.

22        Hurray!! Thanksgiving Vacations here at last.

29        Eagles battle with Colby Five.  Lost again.

30        No more pep meetings because of disorderly conduct.
