Miscellaneous Trivia

Roy Ostenson reports that the ball field in Curtiss was made possible by Arnie Olson and it was actually situated on a piece of the Olson farm.  Arnie's tall son, Otto, was a great athlete and participated in a wide variety of sports in conjunction with farming on the family's homesteaded land.  Documents indicate that property was originally purchased by Arnie from the United States Government and is now owned by his great grandson, Allen Olson (2004).

Henry Scidmore said while he was teaching, he managed the Curtiss baseball team.  In the summer of 1941, the team won the Cloverbelt League Championship by defeating Rib Lake at the Medford fairgrounds.  Emmy Jakel was catcher and Kenny Sheets was pitcher.  Orville Laabs was the coach.
