Notes & Memories

Note from Great Grandson Thomas T. Welch(Butch);

When I was a couple of years older than this picture, I can remember going to Grandpas home in Humbird, Wisconsin to visit with my father. I can remember the old pot bellied stove and the odor of wood burning in the house. There was always a bowl of cold boiled potatoes on the table as Grandpa loved to eat cold boiled potatoes. The boards making up the floor were white pine and had been bleached white but had turned again with age and the edge of the room would show the color change. It was a very cozy little farm house near Humbird, Wisconsin. I can remember Grandpa Rundle as being a very kind man. He loved cats and always had them around. I don't remember Rags and Tatters but they were his favorite cats. Gertie  (Gertrude Colgrove) was Henrys second wife, Not pictured. Great Grandma Gertie always had lots of plants dressing up her house. I remember the organ at Grandpas house and especially the round stool that went in front of the organ. I used to sit on it and spin one one way to go up, and the other way to go down. Not a toy but it was for me.

A four generation photo of Henry T. Rundle, his Daughter Hazel Rundle - Welch, her son Thomas E. Welch Jr. and Henrys Great Grandson Thomas T. Welch ( nicknamed Butch). This photo was taken in 1944.

Amongst the things given to me from my mother was an old tobacco tin. Research has not produced any results as to when this tin was made however we do know it was made for the Cameron and Cameron  tobacco company of Richmond Virginia.

39

This tin contained "Extra Fine Perue Virginia and Turkish" tobacco.  Famosa Mixture.

40

The tobacco and tin were processed at Factory No. 4, 2nd Dist. of Virginia. There is a note on the box that says " Notice-- The manufacturers of this tobacco have complied with all the requirements of law. Every person is cautioned under penalty of law, not to use this package for tobacco again".
