family treasures. |

A button from the uniform
of Henry T. Rundle is from the Spanish American War and has the
Great Seal of the State of Wisconsin on the button. These buttons
were all tied together on an old piece of cord and given to me by my
mother some 20 years ago. |

Henry T. Rundle fought with
Co A, 3rd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish American
War. Most of these uniform buttons were made by the Scovill Co.,
Waterbury, Connecticut according to the back marks on the buttons. |

Stewart
Sweeney was the first husband of Hazel Rundle. Stewart was born
to Robert Sweeney and Nettie Plumer Sweeney. little is known of
Robert and Nettie except for the fact that
Nettie was French and Indian while Robert was Irish according to
family records.

Stewart was born
September 18, 1888 at St. Josephs Hospital in Chippewa Falls,
Wisconsin and passed April 30, 1960 according to his death
certificate.
Stewart held the
rank of Wagoner with the HQ. Co. 127th Infantry, 32nd Red Arrow
Division during World War I. It was recorded that Stewart was a
survivor of the sinking of the U.S.S. Tuscania during world War
I off the coast of Ireland by a torpedo from a German submarine
UB-77. Stewart survived being part of a replacement detatchment
of the 32nd Red Arrow Division. The survivors were rescued by
many different vessels including fisherman. Little else is
known.
Stewart was supposed
to have to had two brothers, Robert Jr. and William. William
also served in the 32nd Red Arrow Division during WWI.
There are no known
pictures of this part of the family and anyone knowing or having
photo's, it would be appreciated if they were shared with our
family.

Austin Willard
Sweeney (Bill) was the son of Hazel Rundle - Sweeney and Stewart
Sweeney. Austin(Bill) was the only child born to Hazel and
Stewart in this marraige. Born June 2, 1915.
Bill entered the
U.S. Navy 17 December,1941 and served time at USNOB, Guantanamo
Bay, Cuba - on the U.S.S. Key, DE348 and the U.S.S. Edwin A.
Howard, DE346 and Com San Pedro Sub Gr. 19th Fleet. He was
Discharged from service on 9 December, 1946. During this time of
service, Bill earned the Asiatic Pacific Medal with one star-
the American Area Medal - Philippine Liberation Medal with one
star- the American Defense Medal - World War II Victory Medal
and a Good Conduct Medal. Bill is another great chapter in our
familys Military History.
