Chase, Frank W. & Edith
Frank W. Chase first came to Abbotsford in September of 1898 and continued his
residence in Abbotsford until August 1899, when he went to Dorchester and, with
his brother-in-law, Bert Wells, started in business in the store formerly owned
by Shafer & Sprengler.
Wells and Chase enjoyed excellent business and during 1907 took on the Ford
agency, which continued to grow rapidly. In 1913, Wells & Chase decided to move
to Abbotsford, where they could get better service from a shipping standpoint.
They erected a garage owned by Vern Steffen. They needed additional help and
their brother-in-law, Charles Fleming, came and worked for Wells & Chase for
about a year. Then Mr. Fleming moved to Medford and took over a garage there.
Another brother-in-law, Gene Sullivan, came to work for Wells & Chase and
continued here for some time. He then moved to Ogema and establish a Ford agency
there.
Wells & Chase sold their business in July 1924 and moved to Roseburg, Oregon.
Frank W. Chase married Edith Tabor, April 20, 1904, in Dorchester. They had five
children.
Robert was the only one of the Chase children born in Abbotsford.
