Dolan, Peter & Regina / Clarence & Martha
Peter Dolan, being a Soo Line railroad brakeman, moved to Abbotsford in 1910. At
that time his son, Clarence Dolan was two years old, another son, Leonard, was a
baby.
The railroad division was moved from Abbotsford to Stevens Point, so the Dolan’s
moved there, where another son, William, was born. In 1914, the Dolan’s moved to
Park Falls. At that time, Mr. Dolan was working on what was known as the North
Local. Two girls, Eleanore and Kathryn were born there.
In 1917 the Dolan’s decided to move back to Abbotsford where two daughters, Ruth
and Mary Jane were born. The Dolan children attended grade school and all of
them graduated from the Abbotsford High School, the boys all taking part in
athletics, basketball, baseball and football.
After graduation, Clarence Dolan was employed by the Laabs Cheese Company, and
by the Northern States Power Company, as meter reader and also did service work.
On Nov. 11, 1930, Clarence Dolan married Martha Monarski in Eau Claire, which
was her home.
In 1934 Clarence was elected to the office of village clerk, which he held for a
number of years until he resigned to spend full time in the office of the
Bootzin Company, who had established a grocery, feed and trucking business.
Three daughters were born to Clarence and Martha Dolan, Pat, Carol and Mary. The
girls also received their education in the grades and graduated from the
Abbotsford High School.
In 1939, Clarence Dolan was made acting postmaster, when Maxwell Jenks resigned
to take a position with the Masonic Lodge. On May 29, 1940, he was appointed
Postmaster and held this position until his retirement on June 30, 1972.
Martha Dolan was also employed in the Post Office as a substitute clerk for a
period of 25 years, from June 9, 1945 to August 14, 1970, when she resigned with
a disability.
