Gokey, Vane L. & Martha
Vane LeRoy Gokey, born Oct. 16, 1903, at Norrie, situated on the east line of
Marathon Co., Wis., worked on the farm until he went to Milwaukee, where he
started working for the Cudahy Packing Co., and later worked as a painter and
decorator, until 1928 when he took up barbering in Abbotsford.
He bought out tom Gibson April 9, 1931, and built his own shop during 1936.
He was married to Martha Leonhardt Dec. 30, 1926. Their home, located on Highway
29, west was purchased in May 1942, from Art Meschefski.
One son, Vane Jr., was married March 21, 1953 to Miss Barbara Jossart of
Minocqua.
In 19??, Clem Ogurek purchased the barbershop and still operates the business
today.
*Both Vane and Marth Gokey
are buried in the
Abbotsford City Cemetery, Abbotsford, Clark Co., WI.
