Johan Hanson, born in Norway in 1854, came to this county in 1884, locating in
the wilderness five and one-half miles west of Abbotsford and one mile north. He
and his wife and six children, who were born in Norway and came to this country
with the parents: Hanna, Christine, Stan, Mattie, Pauline and Peter, who died
shortly after arriving in Wisconsin. The following children were born in this
area: Anna, Peter, Ida John, Ole, Norma and Laurel.
Mrs. Hanson died in 1900. In 1902 the family disposed of the home and moved to a
place one mile west and one-half mile north of Abbotsford. This was a wilderness
at that time. The surrounding area was logged in 1903, with the logs loaded on a
Wisconsin Central Railway side track located on the Hanson farm.
Ole Hanson bought the home farm in 1918. The father continued to live on the
home place until his death in 1929. Ole operated the farm until 1954. Peter
bought the adjoining farm which he operated until retirement.
Four of the Hanson family are residents of Abbotsford: Peter, Norma (Mrs.
Johnson), Anna B, a retired school teacher, and Ole, who was Abbotsford street
superintendent for many years.
