Kieser, Gottlieb & Stella
Gottlieb Gustave Kieser, a barber for many years in Abbotsford, Wis., was born
in Russia, Dec. 28, 1890. Between the ages of six and twelve he was “farmed out”
to herd cattle for a neighbor.
He married Miss Stella Habeck of Athens in 1925. They had nine children:
Frederick, Donald, Dennis, Dorothy, Marilyn, Doris, Carol, Muriel and Marjorie.
Donald lives in Abbotsford at present.
Mr. Kieser came here to work for Tom Gibson in 1925, and purchased the barber
shop in 1935.
Time has made many changes in the barbering line. It has been said that formerly
a barber shaved ten before cutting one head of hair. Now days, they have ten
haircuts to one shave. The rack that once held mugs, with the customer’s name in
gold letters, for their personal use, is no longer seen on the barbershop wall.
*Both Gottlieb & Stella are buried in the Abbotsford Cemetery.
