Larson, Lars & Mathea
Mr. Lars Larson came to America from Barlindalen, Norway in 1883 and bought a
piece of land one and one-half miles west of Abbotsford. It is still in the
Larson name.
Mr. Larson worked as a section laborer for the Wisconsin Central and Soo Line
Railroad. He also took care of the gas engine that pumped water for the trains
and cared for the switch lights.
In 1888 he married Mathea Amundien from Gubransdalen, Norway. She and her sister
Anna had come to live with their great aunt Mrs. Ole Olson Berg. The O. Bergs
were one of Abbotsford’s first settlers and owned the farm which then comprised
much of the southeastern part of Abbotsford. They had the first dairy in this
community.
Mr. Lars Larson lived to be 80 years. He died in 1934. Mrs. Larson died in 1954
at age 84. They had ten children:
Ruth,
Martin, Louise, Agnes, Alma, Helen,
Emma, Mabel, and Malcolm.
Martin Larson is buried in the
Stanley East Cemetery, Thorp township, Clark Co., WI.
