Lieders, Andrew & Elizabeth / Orville & Lillian

The Lieders family has lived in this community many years. Andrew Lieders was born in Centerville, Wisconsin on Oct. 31, 1857. His parents came to America from Germany and settled in that area. At the age of twenty-four he came to Dorchester, Clark Co, Wis. and purchased a farm in the town of Holton, Marathon Co., on which he lived for four years. Then he moved into the village of Dorchester and was engaged in stock buying and horse trading.

Andrew Lieders was married in Dorchester on Jan. 5, 1886 to Miss Elizabeth Shamborn, a resident of that area. Their children included four sons and two daughters, Harry of San Antonio, Texas, Arnold of Medford, Oregon, Arthur died in Seattle, Wash. And Orville in Abbotsford.

Andrew Lieders’ brother, Henry Lieders, lived with him until his marriage, at which time he purchased the house now owned by Joe Sulik on 2nd Street. Henry Lieders was a real estate broker for many years and lived in Abbotsford until his death in 1932.

Andrew Lieders moved to Abbotsford in 1912 and purchased a home on North 1st Street. There were many vacant houses in Abbotsford at that time, which he would purchase paint and repair and resell. Mr. Lieders had a second hand store for many years, on Main Street, in a building where Hutman Heating is now located.

He was residing in the building across from the Abbotsford City Hall, in which he moved his second hand store, at the time of his death in 1939. Mrs. Andrew Lieders died in 1949 at the age of eighty-one.

Orville Lieders was married to Lillian Fahrenbach of Curtiss, Clark Co. in 1926, and lived in Curtiss until 1927 when they purchased the home in Abbotsford in which they are still residing. They have three children, Dolores, Maurine and Orville, Jr.

Orville started a gravel trucking business in 1928. As soon as Orville Jr. was old enough to drive a truck, he worked with his father. The business was expanded to include bulldozing, trenching and loading equipment. In 1970 Orville Jr. took over the business, but his father still is very active in the work.

Orville Jr. is married to Arlene Friedrich of Edgar and resides in a home they built, on Highway 13 between Abbotsford and Colby. They have one daughter, Cindy, and five sons, Kevin, Brian, Craig, Bradley and Paul. Orville Jr. is a partner in a Mobile Home Trailer Court, called Green Acres Terrace. It is located on Highway 13 on the north side of Colby.
