Rilling, Dr. Jacob A.
Dr. J.A. Rilling, a dentist, opened an office in Abbotsford in 1906. His first
office was upstairs over the post office, which was located just north of the
Abbotsford Bank (now Security State Bank). The building was torn down with the
lot now used as drive-in for the bank.
In the early days there was no electrical drills, so the doctor used a treadle
to drill teeth. In the early 1920’s Doctor Rilling moved his office upstairs
over the Abbotsford Hardware building, Besides taking care of the people’s
dental needs for the surrounding area, the Doctor was engaged in the garage and
automobile sales business, being a Buick dealer for many years.
The garage was located just north of the Abbotsford Tribune building, known at
one time as the Palm Garden before being converted to a garage.
In the 1930’s Doctor Rilling moved his office to the upstairs of the Gibson
Barber Shop. While spending full time as a dentist, he was also engaged in the
fox ranching business. The fox farm was located near Wausau.
During his years in Abbotsford, he found time to serve as trustee on the Village
Board for a number of years. Doctor Rilling served this area around Abbotsford
for over fifty years as a dentist.
