Pleasant Ridge Cheese Factory

Mead Township, Clark Co., Wisconsin

This cheese factory which was located in Section 12 of Mead Township.  We believe these were taken shortly after the factory was built in the early 1950’s and owned by Edwin (Ed) and Mae (Schultz) Franz.  They originally had the cheese factory that was on the NW corner of Section 12 along with a tavern.  In the 1950’s Ed decided to build a new factory and built west of the NW corner of Section 12 about ½ mile.  The picture of the interior shows the wooden cheese press and vats that were originally in the factory.  Later on Ed upgraded the vats and press to Stainless Steel.  They also had a store that is attached to the north side of the factory where they sold groceries, cheese and beer to their patrons and the area residents.  Nancy and her husband Gary now own the property and the factory is still standing, but is used as a recreation and vacation cabin.
