Wednesday, 21 May 1913 Spencer Frank Hayward is making some improvements on his house, adding a porch and making other changes. L. Dyggart is doing the work. Thos. Welch is preparing to have a foundation placed under his house and other improvements made. J. D. Graves, who is one of the jurors for Marathon county, came home from Wausau Saturday to remain over Sunday. Rev. Gibson of Medford preached in the M. E. church Sunday evening and conducted the communion service. Miss Joyce Graves went to Ladysmith last week to visit her sister, Mrs. Foster McIlhattan. Born to Mr. and Mrs. George Schwantes, Tuesday, May 13, a son. Miss Alice Crawshaw went to Milwaukee Thursday to spend a two weeks vacation. During her absence Miss Gruber of Marshfield is employed in the restaurant. Lee Pickett, who has bean teaching in North Dakota the past year, arrived home Friday. Emma, the year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Ernest was taken to Marshfield Friday night and operated upon for a serious case of appendicitis. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilkins of Superior who came down for the funeral of Mrs. Everett Holies, spent a couple days in Spencer with her sister, Mrs. C. Williams and returned home Sunday morning. Miss Maud Welch spent last week at Unity with Mrs. J. R. Kuehnau. Miss Elsie Hoops returned home Thursday from an extended visit at Moon. The section men are doing, a great deal of work between Spencer and Marshfield, putting in new culverts, ties and doing other needed work. There will be a dance at the Krieger hall in Spencer this Friday evening, May 23. Music will be given by the Spencer orchestra, all good fellows who have been quite successful with their dances in the past. T. A. Tack's sawmill will run another week anyhow, as there is quite a bit of lumber to be cut yet.
