Thursday, 5 July 1945 ----Smolke, Catherine (23 Apr. 1883 – 27 June 1945) Mrs. Frank Smolke, 62, of Route 1, Edgar, died of a heart attack Wednesday, June 27, at 10:30 p.m. The body lay in state at the Zink Funeral Home at Abbotsford until Sunday afternoon, when it was taken to the Smolke home. Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. John the Baptist Catholic church at Wuerzburg, the Rev. Raymond Schultz officiating, and internment took place in the Wuerzburg cemetery. Mrs. Smolke, the former Catherine Fischer, was born in Germany April 23, 1883, and was married at Rozellville, Sept. 30, 1902, to Frank Smolke. She was a member of the Altar Society and had lived at Edgar the past 42 years. Surviving besides her husband are six children: Mrs. Marge Maloney, of Chicago; Mrs. Marion Grunt, Long Beach, Calif.; Alvis Smolke, Marshfield; Mrs. Raye Now, at home; Mrs. Rose Pecher, Abbotsford; and Lawrence Smolke, Edgar. Also surviving are nine grand children and seven brothers and sisters: Mrs. Margaret Schermetzler and Mike and Simon Fischer, Stratford; John Fischer, Marshfield; George Fischer, Loyal; Mrs. Barbara Morris, Chicago; and Mrs. Theresa Krostag, West Allis.
