(6 Jan. 1918 – 25 May 2004) John A. Koppa, 86, Marathon, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1918, in the town of Cassel, son of the late John T. and Mary (Gorski) Koppa. On May 28, 1949, he married Grace Woitkovich in Wausau. She preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 1988. John and Grace farmed their entire life on the family farm in the town of Cassel until retiring in 1981, when they moved to Marathon. He was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, town of Cassel. John enjoyed gardening, fishing and being outdoors, but most special to him was spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter, Sandy Brunn, Marathon; two granddaughters, Ashley and Megan; one sister, Caroline Narloch, Wausau; and two brothers, Alex (Vivian) Koppa and Anton Koppa, all of Wausau. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes Jakubowski, Dorothy Michlig and Margaret Guralski; and three brothers, Leo, Ted and Edward Koppa. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 28, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, town of Cassel. The Rev. Barnabas Kyeah will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, is in charge of arrangements.
