(16 Nov. 1925 – 19 Oct. 2008) ATHENS -- George L. Dvorak, 82, of Athens, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services are pending. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Abbotsford is assisting the family with arrangements. ----Source: Marshfield News Herald (Wood Co., Wis.) Tuesday, 21 Oct. 2008 ATHENS -- George L. Dvorak, 82, of Athens died at his home on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Athens. Burial will be in Athens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. George Dvorak was born Nov. 16, 1925, in the town of Reitbrock, rural Edgar, to John G. and Mary (Bates) Dvorak. He joined the Army and served during World War II. George was united in marriage to Gertrud Wolfgang in 1954 in Germany. They later divorced. George made the military his life's work. He served in the 33rd Division, the 5th Army state side, the 7th Army in Europe, the 8th Army in Japan. Mr. Dvorak was in the 62nd Military Highway Patrol also known as the "White Mice" of which he was a lifetime member. George's love of nature, especially birds and the woods, led to many of his free time projects like wood working and gardening. George Dvorak is survived by his children, Carol (Bill Martin) Dvorak of Galena Kan., Bert (Jeanette) Dvorak of Joplin Mo., and Mark (Sandy) Dvorak of Galena Kan; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Murkowski of Edgar.
